Paul Ray aka Ray PM Nightly

About Me

Paul Ray has been down with hiphop by law since 1988 at a very young age. Going into the 90's where it was more about beats to compliment rhymes of strong lyricists in the game, he became very serious about the artform. During the year of 1992, going by the name of Paul Ray the Perilous, he started sitting in on basement sessions with DJ E., Rebel XD, Vakill, Mackadamien Thorn, Connect Flow, and the Molemen at the Mole Hole to see how things were done. Around the year of 1995, the game had changed as the emcee subject matter had changed. So while all the artists mentioned above started working diligently on their upcoming projects to keep real hiphop alive, he had to do for self and link up with one of the premier underground DJ's in the game, DJ 33 1/3. While 33 1/3 was busy shopping demos with Ang 13 as a group, he still took time to build with Paul Ray. From there, Paul became accustomed to beat digging and finding the perfect drums and delivery based on how beats swing. Paul Ray appeared on the Tone and Tom (Tone B. Nimble and 33 1/3) series of mixtapes alongside underground greats such as Primeridian, Daily Planet, Ste, and Capital D of All Natural.
After witnessing the business side of releasing material independently from that of mixtapes by deejays, EP cassettes of Molemen artists, and promo 12" records by Illstate Assassin emcees, D 2 Tha S, Paul Ray realized this was an alternative to being a slave to the industry. Therefore, executive produced by Paul Ray and DJ 33 1/3, and with the beats of DJ 33 1/3, the underground classic, More Emotion b/w Long Dayz 12" was released in May 1997 (the same week as Notorious B.I.G - Life After Death). Since then Paul Ray has recorded material and taken a 6 year hiatus from the game. He has since completed his college education, been practicing behind the wheels of steel, perfecting his sound for beatmaking, and recording material. Along with that, he has been trying to ignore the cookie cutter radio songs. 2006 will see the re-emergence of Paul Ray with a new crew, Quyte Hostyle and new label and entertainment company building from the ground up!!!
