About Me

The musicians that make up Peanuts are twofold. Firstly there is Clipper Ship Capt. Phillip von troubestein, who is a classically trained Cellist and plays keyboard with the duo along with anything else that happens to be lying around. Phillip refuses to play with his eyes open, as he believes it compromises his connection with the musics organic spontaneity. Secondly there is the small matter of Adventurer/Explorer Dominic Maxwell smythe, who operates musical toys and guitars until his gaze shifts towards the sink. The Peanuts live experience is a chaotic relay race of cross legged instrument juggling, with fairy lights and huge wooden flowers setting the ambience alongside the melodicas, accordions, harmoniums and violas. Recording is an arduous affair of Neolithic devices battling against the digital algorithm. Most often, the melodic ostinatos are played manually as opposed to being programmed and quantised, whereas percussive rhythms are intricately and randomly premapped and looped from samples of 80s Casio keyboard beats or washing machine doors and toasters. Influences include Sir Karl Raimund Popper, Brian Eno, Bjork, Paul Simon, klaus wunderlicht, hot air balloons, petrified wood. dinosaurs, William Dubois Duddell, Santana, The Readers Digest, Physical warmth, and mathematics.Your friends, Peanuts -(`v)-
