Cowriter Connection

About Me

www.CowriterConnection.com is a tool designed to help songwriters find collaborators. It was conceived and designed by one of Nashville’s most respected teachers of songwriting, Barbara Cloyd, co-writer of the Lorrie Morgan classic “I Guess You Had To Be There.” Her tireless efforts to nurture young talent through her workshops, consultations and hosting shows at the world-famous Bluebird Café earned her the 2008 Maggie Cavender Award in Recognition of Extraordinary Service to the Songwriting Community from the Nashville Songwriters Association International. Cowriter Connection is the latest way she is serving our community.
In her work with developing songwriters, many of whom do not live in music industry centers, one of the most frequent questions she gets is “Can you help me find co-writers?” This website is her answer to that request.
The cost of using the site is $25 a year.
HOW IT WORKS
First you'll have to visit www.CowriterConnection.com.
You begin by creating your personal profile, which includes answering a set of standard questions about what style of music you write, whether you write melody, lyrics or both, what instruments you play, etc. You post a link to where your music can be heard on line, such as on Myspace, Broadjam or your personal website. You can post a picture if you like and there is a section where you can give any other information you want to about your songwriting and about what you are looking for in a collaborator.
Once you submit your profile your data is entered into the main grid and you receive access to it. The grid contains the names of every writer who registers followed by the answers they gave to the standard set of questions. You can sort the grid by different criteria to help you find the type of collaborator you are looking for – such as “writes rock music, plays keyboard” or “lives in Maryland, writes lyrics.”
As you browse the grid, when you see writers who seem to have what you’re looking for, if you click on their names their personal profiles will appear. From their profile pages you can use the link they posted to listen their music on line. Once you are at that link you can contact them through that site if you want to invite them to co-write with you.
