Distorted X dance crew has found their popularity in the dance industry to be growing quite fast in 2008. The Houston, Texas-based septuplet consists of five powerful and fierce females and two charismatic and energetic male dancers. Each crew member contributes to the groups performances by sharing ideas with one another visually and choreographically, thus creating a blend of raw hip-hop in combination with vogueing and a fabulous "can't touch-this" attitude.
Formed in February 2008 in preparation for Houston's First Annual Choreographers Carnival, Distorted X began as six dancers looking to put on a high energy performance for the local Houston dance community. Upon hearing of the Americas Best Dance Crew auditions visiting the Houston area, the crew gained an additional member and spiced up their routine for a spot on the show. Little did they know that they would receive the call of a lifetime to participate on one of the most popular dance programs on television and MTV.
The crew members of Distorted X range in ages from eighteen to twenty-eight and each member has trained in all styles of dance in the Houston Metropolitan area, as well as New York and Los Angeles, California.
"Our inspiration derives from the studios that we have trained in, the choreographers that we have met, artists we have watched, and the opportunities that we have received along the way, says Lindsay Slott, spokesperson for Distorted X. "Although we can recognize that we are a diverse and original group of dancers, we aspire to be more than just those two words. We feel that this particular description has been used too often by other dance crews and has become cliche in the dance industry today. Anyone can say that they are "diverse" and "original" but in the end, it all comes down to walking the walk and talking the talk. We like to think that the Jabbawockeez set the bar to be different and transcendent in the first season of ABDC, and through our admiration for them, we hope to also be that breath of fresh air for the viewers this season!", Slott adds with excitement .
Currently, Distorted X has been dubbed the official dance crew for Houstons local hit radio station 104.1 KRBE, and can be seen performing at local concerts and events such as Kanye West and Alicia Keys. The crew can also be found tearing up the scene in various venues and clubs alike. We are extremely happy to have received all of the performing opportunities that have come our way in the past few months, says Jerome Hill. Without the support of KRBE and our friends that have passed the name of Distorted X around town, I am unsure where we would be at this point. Getting the call to ABDC is such a huge break!"
When asked what America could expect from Distorted X, crew member Courtney Paige says, "We hope to create something new and fresh in the second season of Americas Best Dance Crew by showing everyone that, not only can a bunch of cute southern kids from Texas really break it down on the dance floor, there's also more to dancing than just intricate choreography. We want to put on a show! We want to perform for America and make people want to get on their feet in their living rooms and jam with us!"
The strength and power of the Distorted X has already made waves in the Houston area and will soon make waves in the second season of Americas Best Dance Crew. So if you can handle it, get ready to experience, The Love, The Truth, The Freedom, The Spirited, The Noise, The Insanity, The Fabulous........ Distorted X.
