What is A Welcome Flood?
A Welcome Flood is an organization dedicated to promoting awareness about clean water shortage and donating life straws to people who desperately need them in the congo. It is also a philosophy and a movement. We believe in living our lives with the least possible negative impact on others socially, economically, and ecologically. For every shirt you buy we will donate five dollars of the proceeds to IMA World Health. The IMA works in the Congo giving out life-straws and teaching people how to use them. Personal life-straws cost only $3 and family systems cost $15-$20. More information about the program can be found here .
What does your name mean?
People normally think of floods as life shattering events. Floods destroy homes and lives. There are people around the world though that are in need of a flood of clean water. They will welcome a flood of more than just clean water, but a flood of compassion from others around the world. It is up to you to flood them with kindness and support.
Why are we doing this?
Simply put- because we can. We have the time, energy, and resources to do this right now so we will. We love designing things and we love people so it makes sense.We are not doing this to make money or because we are bored with our lives. We are serious about the water shortage in the world and we are going to do what we can to help alleviate this situation. We don't want you to buy a shirt, we want you to be informed about the problem and get involved.
Why water?
We are concerned with this issue right now because it affects so many people and there is so little being done to fix it. Water is elemental to all life on Earth. The World Health Organization has estimated that 80% of all sickness and disease in the world is attributable to inadequate water or sanitation. Over 1.1 Billion people still don't have access to clean water. We believe that access to clean drinking water is a fundamental human right, that is why we are doing this.
