About Me

Born and raised in Cincinnati Ohio, I have lived here most of my life. I work as an event manager at the 20th Century Theater, a cool restored movie theater built in 1941 and put on the National Registry as a landmark about nine years ago. We have some incredible concerts there, along with a lot of private events. I'm also the GM at Habits Cafe.
I also work as a freelance writer and artist, and do some production work. My first novel was published two years ago (hence the "serious writer" publicity photo at left), a fantasy adventure about a witch and her private detective husband called Jasmine's Husband Sam. Since it begins in modern time, goes back to ancient Europe and comes back again, there is a good deal of interesting history in it. You can check it out here . The sequel is in the works. I also illustrated a nice childrens' book that just came out called Mr. Whappoptamus Goes to the Beach, the first in a series of three by Mr. Scott Brown.
My real accomplishment is just being a dad to my eight-year-old daughter Delaney. If I start going on about her I won't stop.
Okay, I think I'm done writing about myself now. Maybe more later?

My Interests

Writing, reading, and art. Exercise of all kinds. Movies and music. Good food (mostly healthy, but I do stray), good wine, scotch, beer and cigars. And martinis. I really like martinis. I love the outdoors, but who doesn't?

I'd like to meet:

Leonard Cohen, Jack London, H. G. Wells, Pablo Picasso and Mila. I realize it's a little late for London, Wells and Picasso, and not much point in meeting Mila, but there it is.

Music:

Blues, jazz, rock, folk, celtic, in no particular order. Some country, funk, raggae, zydeco, and classic.

Movies:

All kinds. Westerns (I'm a Duke fan), sci-fi, fantasy, biographical, period pieces. Love the medievel stuff - Lord of the Rings trilogy was magnificent. Christmas movies are great. Most recent movie I've seen and liked; Juno

Television:

Not a lot. Anything with good delivery and inspired writing. Sitcoms and wrestling for escape. HBO has some great stuff - Deadwood, Flight of the Concords and Dead Like Me are good examples. I've seen amazing shows on the Discovery and History channels, and of course IFC. Not only are reality shows misnamed, they also suck. And that's coming from a guy who watches wrestling.

Books:

Oh man. Where to start? The Invisable Man, To Kill a Mockingbird, Tolkien, anything by William Goldman or Dashiell Hammett, Richard Brautigan, Michael Chabon, Jack London, most of Steven King, some Anne Rice... this is pointless - there are just too many.

Heroes:

That's a tough one. I'll get back to you.

Today Cliff was buried and I found my old home.

I give you fair warning. This is long and rambling and probably of no interest to you. If you read on, let it be with that fact in mind. My friend Cliff Lee died over the weekend, struck by a mas...

Surveys

Okay, I think I'm officially swearing off surveys. Although there's something to be said for "getting to know people" by reading and writing answers, I'm starting to find them mind-numbing and time-co...
