About Me
Rebecca Hennessy was born and raised in Nanaimo, British Columbia. After graduating with a Jazz Diploma from Malaspina University-College in Nanaimo, Rebecca moved out east to further her studies in Jazz Performance at University of Toronto. During her studies at the University of Toronto, Rebecca studied with some of Canada’s finest jazz musicians: Kevin Turcotte, Chase Sanborn, Kirk McDonald, Alex Dean, Phil Nimmons, Jim Lewis, Paul Read, Terry Promane and Quinsin Nachoff. Rebecca has since graduated from University of Toronto; however, during the third year of her studies she joined a busy Mariachi Band called Viva Mexico Mariachi. With this band Rebecca has had the opportunity to travel and record. Recently, Rebecca went to Guadalajara Mexico to participate in the International Mariachi Festival. This summer, Viva Mexico Mariachi has plans to play in Barcelona’s International Mariachi Festival.
Apart from the Mariachi Rebecca is also playing in various Jazz and Popular groups around Toronto and can be heard on the following albums: Illuminations featuring Mike Murley by Sarah Jerrom, Awakening featuring Quinsin Nachoff, 10 o’clock Jazz Orchestra directed by Paul Read, A Sea of Tiny Lights,(to be released) by Nathan Lawr.
