MAGDALENA KALTCHEVA was born in July 1987 in Sofia, Bulgaria. After initially taking private lessons with S. Vladimirov in Sofia, she began to study with Csaba Szekely in Aachen. From 2000 until 2004 she was a student at the Special High school of Music
“Schloß Belvedere†in Weimar, Germany. In October 2004 she was accepted for study with Prof. Jürgen Rost at the “Franz Liszt†University of Music in Weimar and since 2008 also with Prof. Hubert Käppel at the "Music Academy" in Koblenz. For her musical accomplishments she has received a master guitar from the "Soroptimist International Club" and a scholarship from the "Freundeskreis zur Förderung der Bochumer Symphoniker". Since 2000, she has participated in a number of different master courses with Pepe Romero, Manuel Barrueco, David Russell, Odair Assad, Aniello Desiderio, Hubert Käppel, Thomas Müller-Pering, Zoran Dukic, Costas Cotsiolis, Roland Dyens, Dale Kavangh, Carlo Marchione, among others.
In addition to a number of concerts, TV- and Radio recordings (Solo concert at the “Aschaffenburger Gitarrentageâ€, “Concierto de Aranjuez" for guitar and Orchestra with the broadcast orchestra of Munich – live at Radio Bayern 4 Classic), can chalk up impressive success at Competitions for example:
1. Prize at the 40 th national Guitar Competition “Jugend Musiziert†and the Special Prize for having the highest number of points (Germany),
1. Prize at the “Roland Zimmer†national Guitar Competition (Germany),
1. Prize and Special Prize at the 9th International Guitar Competition “Anna Amalia†(Germany),
1. Prize at the 5th International Guitar Competition „Agustin Barrios“ (Italy),
1. Prize at the 9th International Guitar Competition in Gevelsberg (Germany), 1. Prize at the International Guitar Competition in Veria, (Greece),
2. Prize at the XII. International Guitar Competition „Kutna Hora“ (Czech Republic),
2. Prize at the VI. International Guitar Competition "Josè Tomás" (Spain),
2. Prize at the Scharpach International Guitar Competition (Holland), and also 2. Prize at the 17th International Guitar Competition “Hubert Käppel†in Koblenz (Germany).
In the Year 2006 she has recorded her first CD “Sonatas†with „NCA - New Classical Adventure†Hamburg.
The selection of works performed on this CD from Scarlatti, Mertz, Paganini, Brouwer and Dyens contain a variety that afford a technical musical ability of the highest level and at the same time a gentle feel of sound and musical sensitivity.
