Electrifying drummer, talented composer, producer and respected instructor.
At a young age he already released two CD’s. One in the studio and the second from his concert, a double CD in a package. In his latest CD ‘15 MINUTES PROJECT’ listeners are seduced by Janek’s signature tonal quality. His concentrated backbeat serves as the lining for the hip-hop groove which slowly exposes the ever-present acid jazz. Subsequently he invites his audience to feel the slow burning grooves of the smooth jazz. All tracks reflect his casual yet sophisticated production style and his well-rounded feast of smooth moods and powerful energy.
When asked about the creation of his CD’s Janek explains “At the end of 2001, I established together with pianist Michal Fox, my own band called 15 MINUT PROJEKT (15 MINUTES PROJECT). The principal formation of the band came into existence as a drums and keyboards duo. We decided to play drum’n’bass 100 percent live with full improvisation on base. In four years we played 300 concerts and produced two CD’s, both for Kayax Production distributed by EMI â€.
Janek arrived on the musical professionally seen in 1998, which he considers a privilege and a pleasure. Proudly he started his career in the band of bass guitar virtuoso Wojtek Pilichowski. Since that time he’s played and recorded with many Polish and international music stars who represent various types of music such as soul, jazz, hip hop, pop and rock.
Janek Mlynarski is praised and respected by his peers as well as European music magazines and newspapers for his broad musical output as well as the ability to rise to a challenge and then supercede all expectations. His passion for entertaining is not diminished at any setting.
From 2000 until the end of 2005 Janek was asked to join the band of Polish superstar and multi-platinum seller ‘Kayahâ€. He describes Kayah as â€an artist, who combines in her music various elements of pop, jazz, ethno and soulâ€. In 2004 Janek was invited to lend his talent for Kayah’s recording of ‘Stereotyp’ for BMG. This recording rendered Kayah a platinum status. He preformed with Kayah throughout Western Europe, New York City’s Lincoln Center, Canada and Africa. “One of the most memorable and exhilarating performances“ said Janek “was in 2003 when we played in Kosovo for the Polish and American troopsâ€. He ended up his episode with Kayah with appearing onher MTV UNPLUGGED album.
In the past several years my objective and ambition has been to adapt the electronic music language to the world of acoustic instruments†Janek reviled about his passion and his future. Currently works as a sideman musician involved in many different projects and live tv shows orchestras.l
The success and love that Janek Mlynarski has for his music comes from his rich musical heritage. He was born in Warsaw, Poland, on November 2, 1979 into a family with music traditions passed on from generation to generation. His great-grandfather, Emil Mlynarski was a violinist, composer and the founder as well as the firs director of Warsaw Philharmonic Hall. He was the guardian, teacher and a mentor of Arthur Rubinstein, a world-famous piano virtuoso. Janeks father, Wojciech Mlynarski, is one of Poland’s most respected and sought after singer and poet. His mother Adrianna is an accredited actress and recording artist. Janek remembers how music was always one of the most important elements in their household. Each day started with the sounds of music playing on a record player, accompanied by his mothers humming. The taste in music was indiscriminative. They would listen to old school gospel, adding a substantial dose of jazz. Hollywood tunes and Broadway hits were never omitted. His own experience with music started on the piano and guitar, however by the time he was eleven, Janek discovered a deep vocation for drum playing. The best drummers and educators in Poland, like Czeslaw Bartkowski who collaborated with the renowned musician Krzysztof Komeda,Tomasz Stanko,Michal Urbaniak gave him private lessons on drums.
His formal education of music includes elementary and high school of music in Warsaw, Poland and THE COLLECTIVE (diploma june 2007) in NYC. In US he studied with PETER RETZLAFF, IAN FROMAN, KIM PLAINFIELD, ANTONIO SANCHEZ, GUY LICATA, PAT PETRILLO, PHIL MATURANO, ADAM NUSSBAUM, MARCO DJORDJEVIC to name a few.
“My prayer is to be able to make continuous progress on my instrument and to be invited to collaborate with extraordinary artists. I dedicate my performances and compose my music for all the people, who love life and music, as I do. I will continue to share the energy, which is born inside of me when I perform and to building the interaction with audience that I respect and love. With my music I pay homage to all great masters and musical authorities from the distant past and present“. That is how this humble, gifted instrumentalist and composer speaks about himself and then he adds “I live by a simple but great motto: FAITH HOPE LOVE.â€
