VARKIEV is a young Old school Electronic Body Music (E.B.M.) from France officially created in 2008. The initial project has been initiated in 2006 by DJ Bodyhammer, a pure old school E.B.M. fan. After several short cooperation with different people from local Electro scene, the final project has been joined by TarkinX and EBM Oldschool Girl.
Major influences for VARKIEV are the most popular bands from the 80's who invented the Electronic Body Music. We can mention several names like : Nitzer Ebb, Front 242, Deutsche Amerikanische Freundschaft, Signal Aout 42, Vomito Negro and so on. VARKIEV is also taking inspiration from many others types of underground music from the 80's like Post Punk and New Wave for example. The contemporary or E.B.M. bands from the 90's are also used as references. We thinks about some famous and very innovative bands like Paranoid, Spetsnaz, Jäger 90, Darkmen, Autodafeh, Groupe T, Legionaire, U.M.M...
Because we think that E.B.M. is a live and expressive music, the visual and acoustical presentation of our shows have a great importance. We plan to use real noise samples from industry, or metal parts as drums for live shows for example.
VARKIEV logos and graphical designs are also very important. They represent a powerful and strong meaning of what is Electronic Body Music. The concept of energy, unity and efficiency with major topics coming from military and industrial imageries.
