A new day has come in Jamaican music as Rapper Xci is rapidly rising to the top. the name Xci, adopted from the middle name ‘Siiek’ is said to represent this Rapper in totality; to put it simply, a natural mystic. As a member of the McDove group, he stands out with his own style, which resembles a fusion of Al Green’s soul and Tupac’s lyric Nas’s delivery all with the “Jamaican†twist. He describes himself as a humble, loving person who comes from a Christian background. He is easy to talk to get along with and has high expectations. He constantly reaches for his goals and prefers to talk out a dispute. Xci lists as his inspiration past greats such as Bob Marley and Garnet Silk. Luciano, Sizzla, and K-Wise are among his local favorite acts. On the Hip hop scene, he gives credit to Rapper Nas, Tupac, Biggie Small, Ra Kim, Kanye West, Common, Big Daddy Kane and Public Enemy. Xci’s favorite quotes are ‘the eye never sees itself unless it stares in the mirror’ and ‘it’s not your aptitude but your attitude that determines your altitude’. His single ‘On You’ is said to be inspired by events in life. This is his way of talking to God, his prayer about his past, a very basic expression of himself. Xci feels that being called spiritual is a compliment as he firmly believes in the higher power. In all things he does, he is focused on this power which keeps him humble and loyal. Basically his foundation is God. His message for youths today is ‘don’t look towards the negative’. He feels each is to be guided by his conscience and should constantly lift one’s head up by elevating one’s mind and this will in turn elevate your body and soul. In the next five (5) years, he feels he would have maximized his highest potential in music as he ‘loves music to the bone.’ He will have Grammies and even more. He wants his music to be not only heard but also listened to so all can learn from it. As a Jamaican Rapper, he knows that he has his place because his music can say something as well; his medium is different but still powerful. He does not feel like a victim of stereotype but feels people are open and accepting of persons like him, who bring flavor. To cite an example, he points to the fact that even dancehall beats have evolved and the dancehall is even hotter now. He is currently working with producer McDove, with whom he has a collaboration, and Star Nine. He loves the vibes of McDove who he believes also loves the music and as a result, he feels free to be himself around team McDove.
