Si Sutton has been a vinyl junkie for as long as he can remember. Whether its scouring the record shops for fresh material or digging in the crates at the local charity shops for that exclusive oldie, Simons happiest when surrounded by records, so imagine the smile elicited from the 12, 000+ he has amassed in his collection. In the early days, he played the usual house parties for his friends, I was the one with the records, we cobbled together a sound system & voila, instant party!, he says of a scenario common to many a schoolboy DJ. His first loves & influences being Jazz & 70s Soul, Simon was happy playing the more laidback sets suitable for wine bars & eateries, until in the mid-nineties he got a job managing a pub/club in Hertfordshire. Inevitably this whetted his appetite for the more upbeat dance music & clubbing scene. Then, luckily for us, one Friday night his regular DJ couldnt make it, so Simon stepped behind the 1s & 2s & hasnt looked back. Playing regularly at his own place & guesting at the local clubs saw him honing his mixing skills & experimenting with styles from speed garage to drum n bass, but Simons Soul/Jazz roots led him inevitably to US Garage & Soulful, Uplifting, Vocal house, a style he has now made his own. During a 3-year run of Friday & Saturdays @ Heroes in Maidenhead, he hosted a dance music show for Radio Wexham & for the last 3 years hes been Friday Night Resident for Intellidantzia @ Claytons. This Stylish venue in his hometown of Marlow naturally lends itself to what he describes as grown up dance music. Typically, he plays 6hr sets that span the musical spectrum, beginning leftfield with offbeat Jazz, moving smoothly up through Deep & Latin House to US Garage, taking the crowd on an eclectic musical journey to raise the roof with Vocal House. Spreading the word in & around Buckinghamshire, Simon has teamed Intellidantzia with Soultogether, another local talent & between them they put on monthly nights @ Red Baron & quarterly Boat Parties, both building an ever-increasing following. This partnership saw Simons profile increasingly expand, as that year he warmed up for Paul Trouble Anderson & in conjunction with Soul Heaven, filled the baby box @ MOS supporting Bobby & Steve and Kenny Dope, culminating in an exclusive manor house event where he bought soulful house legend Michael Watford into the country for a party to end all parties.This year has seen Simons work rate continue to increase, playing for Rich Mahogany, Fri-Dazed & a number of other promoters at various venues across London, including Turnmills Anexo, Medicine Bar, Tabernacle, Suga Suga & Eve Club.To compliment his live appearances, last year Intellidantzia was taken on to the internet via Pressure Radio & spreads the deep n soulful vybe across the world on a Tuesday night.
