This five piece hardcore outfit hailing from Carterton in Oxfordshire formed in 2006 with founding members Kevin Trethowan and Daniel Searle pencilling their first 2 tracks entirely by themselves with the intention of forming a band.
The recruitment of vocalist Mark Hayton was shortly followed by the addition of Simon Chesher on guitars. Influences from not only previous bands but artists such as Pearl Jam, Mike Patton, Korn and Deftones, saw the original demo recorded under the name 'Randall Flagg' by Marco & Umair of former Oxford Hardcore Heavyweights Xmas Lights. This demo featured the original version of 'IT' and shortly saw the introduction of Bass player Christopher Young.
This demo was to become the 'Demo of the Month' when it was reviewied in Oxfordshire music magazine 'Nightshift', describing the quartets style as 'Virulent Hardcore' and likening them to having a 'surfeit of caffeine and blue smarties in their bloodstream'. Thanks to this stellar first review, 'Randall Flagg' were not only awarded with an opening slot on the final Oxford Zodiac Metal Night (before its conversion to the 'Carling Academy') but also received airplay on BBC's Radio Oxford on 'The Download'. Their track 'IT' won a landslide victory on the voting poll for 'Track of the Week', giving them instant local success.
Following a string of local shows with bands such as Xmas Lights, October File, Chokehold, A Day Called Desire and Gehenna VII VII VII, 'Randall Flagg' entered the studio again. This time, Neema Askari of Milton Keynes based Fell Silent was at the helm over at Studio 33 in Spalding, Lincoln. 'II Turbo' was crafted featuring the original versions of 'Told Scott Mills I Loved Him', 'Residential Zombie Apocalypse' and 'Shitty Mortgages (Lead to Sleazy Motels)'.
A short relaxing period followed countless shows and after much deliberation 'Chasing Hazel' were born from the ashes of 'Randall Flagg'. Following this change, Chasing Hazel were signed to Casket Music thanks to the 'II Turbo' demo.
Chasing Hazel's brand of funk fused hardcore, likened to bands such as Every Time I Die, Protest The Hero and The Dillinger Escape Plan, is set to be released in the Spring of 2009 with their debut album 'It's all about the Style and the Glamour'.
