Desperate Angels

The Desperate Angels were one of the premier rock n roll bands in Atlanta during the late 1970's and early 1980's. Fronted by Tommy Rivers, the Angels plowed their way through Tommy's original material with ease. The band consisted of many fine players such as Rick Richards [Georgia Satellites, Izzy Stradlin and the JuJu Hounds] on guitar and vocals, Shaun Kelley [Jalan Crossland] on bass guitar and vocals and the late Randy DeLay [GeorgiaSatellites, Billy the Kidd] on drums. Freddi Griffin [The Famous Unknowns, The Agents, The Hellhounds, The Untouchables] was the drummer on the Desperate angels 1st released single Shake You Down/ It's all There.The Desperate Angels were regulars at famous Atlanta bars such as CW Shaws, the 688, and The Agora Ballroom. There you would find them sharing the bill with such acts as Ian Hunter & Mick Ronson. The Angels were a bit of an enigma. On the one hand you had Tommy Rivers & Rick Richards who are raw talent at its best. On the other hand you have Shaun Kelley & Randy DeLay whore are formally schooled musicians. Together they created raw powerpop in the vein of The Faces meets the Beatles. Sadly though the band would not last. When they went their separate ways, Rick and Randy would end up in the Satellites. Years later, versions of the band would reunite but alas a full scale reunion would never happen. Tommy, Rick and Randy would all be in the Hellhounds in the late 1980's and early 1990's. Tommy, Rick, Freddi and Keith Christopher would reunite for the Randy DeLay Benefit in 1993. As the archives of the Desperate Angels are being uncovered, many photos and live shows as well as several studio takes are being uncovered.
