A WORLD WITHOUT BOUNDARIES:
Many people have misconceptions of the abilities of individuals who are blind or visually impaired. Many of us draw our conclusions from what we see on TV or in a movie; they think that people living with blindness can play piano or some kind of musical instrument, or that they are left to a life of darkness without much room for what is commonly considered to be a productive, vibrant and independent life. In fact, just the opposite is true for a number of people living with blindness and navigating life blindly as it were. Although Just as the sighted community has a diverse group of individuals with or without challenges, the blind community is very capable of leading a â€normal†life, despite their limited
or lack of vision.
The purpose of this documentary is to show a cross section of the blind community, from the extremely “normal†and talented people that build, make and shape their blind community and our nation as a whole to those locked in a world of darkness immobilized by fear and ignorance. People who are blind, regardless of the fact that less than 30% of the nearly 12,000,000 affected by blindness or visual impairments, are active as advocates for a wealth of special interest groups, are high powered attorneys, hotel magnets, high power and well positioned federal employees, mothers, fathers, sons and daughters, yet what society sees when they close their eyes and imagine the life of a visually impaired individual is a life devoid of independence, relationships, darkness and anything and everything not “normal†according to societal dictates. The documentary will focus on individuals living within the greater tri-state area, but we will also be featuring other individuals from around the world.
We will show both sides to those challenges associated with the topic of blindness, but we will focus on the strength of those in the blind community who
are living fully independent, productive, and healthy lives. The focus of the documentary will hopefully help to create and inspire a societal paradigm shift and will stimulate future generations of people with visual impairments and blindness as well as those of us who are able to “look†but not truly â€seeâ€. This documentary will also bring an honest representation of the blind world to sighted people.
A blind individual is not amazing since they can play an instrument or have a job, they are amazing because they are human beings using problem solving skills while dealing with a huge sensory loss and still making their way through life productively.
This documentary will spend time with those that are blind, losing their sight, the people that assist them, doctors and many other individuals that are somehow connected to the topic of vision loss.

Why the Filmmakers chose the topic of blindness to do a documentary on:
Chris:
My Grandfather used to work for the company Fiberglass, one day while working a piece hit him in the face and some of the glass fibers made their way into his eye. Then later on in life he suffered from macular degeneration and in his later years just about lost his eyesight altogether. I saw how he had to purchase an expensive machine to assist him in reading the newspaper and books, and watched as his glasses got thicker and thicker. I saw how a completely independent active man, he loved to dance, was reduced to a man just sitting on a couch, struggling to read the daily newspaper with a big clunky expensive machine.
Michael:
My involvement in this project is two-fold, primarily‚ my wife, has Multiple Sclerosis and is occasionally blinded in her left eye. There is not a lot information provide for those individuals or caregivers to give them respect and when to and how to assist. Her blindness is not long term currently, though it might be one day. In addition, I had undergone the Lasik Surgery to correct my worsening eye problem, leading to blindness, for over a dozen years my vision was failing slowly. This surgery was to me, glowing success, with only one setback: sensitivity to bright lights, including sunlight. This surgery was expensive and not without risk, however the risk was worth the reward.
