When The Brillantina’s released their debut cd “Twilight dingos†in 1997 in Sonic Recordings, a very small label, nobody nowhere seemed to notice it. Nevertheless that record is today a small classic in the world of Spanish instrumental rock. If featured 13 raw instrumental tracks recorded in the spirit of the 50’s recording techniques, ranging from garage-rock, and spaghetti western to surf. Roberto C. Meyer (founder of glam-rock cult band The Glitter Souls) and Jaime Cristóbal (a Glitter Soul too and nowadays co-leader of the band Souvenir) started the band ‘just for fun’. Later on, drummer Javier Moya (ex-Glitter Soul, now playing in the band The Mittens) and bass player Andrés Mendiri (another ex-member of The Glitter Souls) joined the band for their live act, which lasted a couple of years. In 2003 the band reformed with a renewed line-up for a second record, “Pulp-A-Mandrillaâ€, which was released by El Toro Records. It featured another serving of great instro-surf, frat-rock, and even klezmer. In 2008 the band reunited again and is scheduled to play at the Surforama Festival 2009 in Madrid next September.
