About Me
Why-D (aka Why Dolo), an emcee from Malmoe, South Sweden, started his life on earth as the only child in a single parent household. His Swedish father weren't around so his mother, who came from Zagreb, Croatia as a child, held it down for dolo. He remember his early years with joy and happiness, cause even though they didn't live large, little Why-D always felt loved living with his caring mother. But that would all change. When he was about six years old, his mother met a guy that would become his stepfather. Things we're everything but lovely. Little Why-D kept mostly to himself and sat alone in his room listening to music. It was here that he would later begin to write his own lyrics. It was in Hip-Hop that Why-D found his escape from the harsh reality at home. In school he was either totally asocial and dreamed himself away or he was in the center of attention as the class clown. There was nothing in between and some say there still isn't. In his teens he started running around with the wrong crowd and since he didn't feel welcome at home, he slept mostly at his friends places. He started to do drugs and drink alcohol heavily and got into all kinds of bad shit causing him to later drop out of high school.
But in his early twenties he had enough and decided to change his life. The music and especially the Hip-Hop culture had always been a natural part of his life. Besides he always seemed to have a bunch of lyrics in his head (he's known for memorizing his rhymes and recording it without a paper). So he walked a new path and in january 2003 he released his debut 12" single, Rock Island (Dirty South Anthem), produced by himself and a friend. It created a buzz amongst domestic and foreign underground heads, leaving them screaming for more. His debut single also got nominated at the Swedish Hip-Hop Awards 2003. In 2004 he dropped the five track EP, You Don't EP, which included the critically acclaimed track, The Classics, where he flips the titles of some of the most classic Hip-Hop albums. His sophomore release got him some airplay on swedish radio and The Classics made it to the list of the best swedish hip-hop tracks of 2004 on the popular swedish radio show, P3 Hiphop.
After taking a pause from the music, but never from the pen, he's now back in the studio to record his long awaited debut album, which will contain more serious topics than we're used to. The pen and the pad is like self therapy for this man and this time he really lets us into his life, showing us how he really feels. As Why-D puts it himself, "I will put a bit of my soul and some of my deepest and most honest thoughts and reflections on that album. It will be an album for the world to remember me by. It will include all the aspects of me. That's something I haven't been giving you before."
