The Real Jonzes

About Me

We're just an ambitious duo from Little Rock trying to get a big break in Memphis. We are a duo with big dreams here in the Home of The King! Music is the biggest part of my life. I hope that the release of our album will bring to light all of our lost recordings that are out there somewhere.
I work part time as a stewardess because of my love of travel. Perhaps that is an understatement, as my family says that my traveling is compulsive. Having the advantage of perfect attendance, my desire to fly often is met by a pile of perfect attendance passes that help with my addiction to flying. Many times I have tried to give up flying for singing. But somehow I cannot tear myself away from the wild blue yonder. This has caused me to think of the two as one: soaring songs inspired by the friendly skies. I tend to sing standards because I believe they are the best songs ever written. There is no comparison between modern songs and classics. History teaches us everything. Never ignore your history. Never ignore the song in your heart.
My love of singing goes back to when I was in the crib. My mama tells my that the year I was born, 1955, the song "Earth Angel" by the Crew-Cuts was released. I guess she must have had a radio in the room at some time because I began to sing that song from my crib. My folks tell me that they kept count after the first couple of times and quit writing down how many times after the 273 mark – so it must be more than that. The song is very close to our heart. Though we would love to record it though the time is not yet right.
In 1976 I signed a recording deal with the now-defunct label Desrde Records in Canada, producing the single "I'm In Love With You" which was released overseas. It did not fare as well as hoped. There was no European tour. No big deal. It was a huge strain on my career. It was a bigger strain on our marriage. We have performed together for so many years thinking that nothing could come between us. We were wrong.
I went back to the only thing I knew - my life as a stewardess. There was no thought in my mind of singing again. At that time the thought of singing made my head ring. I felt as though the Lord had called me in another way. My calling you ask? It was simple for me to understand. As all of these wonderful people flew with me across the horizon, I was to bring them joy and comfort – a purpose. I decided that I would spend my life giving peanuts for Jesus. I would bring you that second tiny pillow in the name of the Lord. There is no shame in a regular job. I shed a lot of tears to learn this. Luckily, my man stood by me through the hard times. He is the reason I sing today.
My husband, Courtesy, was born in 1960 a man well ahead of his time. The love of my life, he introduced me to the idea of singing and winging. I want to sing about flying. I want to fly when I sing. I want a fly to sing! ;-) All I am really saying is that there is no limit to your ability to combine your passions. Courtesy is the musical (and intellectual) genius of the family. I am very lucky to have such a talented man to back me. He was trained in Little Rock and graduated from community college and enrolled in music school. As a piano student, he had won lots of high school awards and learned a lot about music theory and arrangements. There was a time in the early 1980s that Courtesy Jonze was in high demand as an arranger. He just has a tendency to disappear. He even does this with his own family. He never checks email or internet things so I run this page for our group. I have to admit that I have spent a large amount of my time married to CJ looking for where the hell he's gone to.
We have been performing together for over 30 years.
We have been married for 32 years.
We have been separated 14 times.
We have divorced 3 times.
We have had 4 weddings.
Thank goodness everything has settled down now...
