I'm a lifelong musician and I make my living in the studio producing, engineering and mastering. I mix sound every year at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival and I mix Stage 2 at the Vancouver Folk Music Festival. I also mix sound at The Subdued Stringband Jamboree, a great roots and old time music festival in Bellingham, WA.
I've worked on some video games produced by Radical Entertainment, and long ago on shows produced by the Arts Club Theatre.
Now I run my own studio in East Van, where some really great folks have come to record.
I was born in Vancouver, but I grew up in Victoria on Vancouver Island. I moved to East Vancouver in 1988 and have lived here since. I got a job at Mushroom Studio in '89 and over the several years i worked there I learned a lot about working in the studio from the old pro's there. I hooked up with the band Coal at their first CD release and began to infiltrate the Vancouver music scene.
I play drums and sing harmony in some bands (Petunia and the Vipers, The Electric Kids) and tenor sax in a fun band called The Highballs. I sometimes play fiddle and drums for Linda McRae, and sometimes drum for Headwater.
As a musician I've played on releases by Jack Harlan, Coal, Linda McRae, The Deadcats, The Salteens, The Shiftless Rounders, Headwater, Ani Kyd, Joanna Chapman-Smith, The Monica Lee Band, 12 Midnight, Earle Peach..
I am into photography and my favorite tipple is single malt scotch. Espresso keeps me alive. I like playing poker. I've been a vegetarian for about 10 years but I still don't like 'vegetarian' food. I do love spicy food. mmm...
Some of the bands that I have produced and/or recorded and/or mixed are: Nomeansno, Ray Condo And The Ricochets, Veda Hille, Po' Girl, Coal, The Deadcats, The Salteens, Cub, The Bughouse 5, Ani Kyd, Eldorado, Jack Harlan, The Royal Grand Prix, The Years, The Hanson Brothers, The Twisters, Pete Turland, knock-down-ginger, The Boomchicks, Francois Houle, John Korsrud, Tony Wilson, Ford Pier, The Show Business Giants, Ronnie Hayward, Thermos, The Beekeepers, Submission Hold, The Surfdusters, The Colorifics, The Minstrels, Jack Tripper, The Highballs, Headwater, 12 Midnight, Linda McRae, Anna Baignoche, Paul Pigat, The Knotty Pines, Earle Peach, Petunia and still others. Some of my recordings have won at the Indie Awards, the West Coast Music Awards and my production for the Twisters "long Hard Road" was nominated for a Juno.
I wrote and recorded the soundtrack to a documentary called The Lowdown On Lowbrow by Marcus Rogers with some help from my good friend and musical brother Jesse Waldman. if you check out my Heavyosonic World Headquarters myspace page you can hear some of the tunes.
