This is a tough one for me considering I like art type things and most of the previous questions deal with art type stuff. Outside of the other things I listed, I enjoy being with friends, family and my lady. This all goes back to the free time conversation from earlier. I like to spend my time with great people and laugh and play and talk. What do we do? Good question. We usually enjoy a good scotch, beer or bottle of wine in a local pub or on the couch. This is usually followed by a good flick or Suns game. I love live music and head out at any given chance to see a show. Good or bad, you may luck out and experience a show that resonates with you forever. I haven't had as much time for playing basketball but I used to "hoop it up", as they say, quite a bit. I love to learn, so all things artistic and travel are really appealing to me. You have to live life with an open mind and really feel like you've experienced it before the ghost hunters come looking for you. Niki has this zest for life and it is what really drew me to her initially.
As you're growing up, there are so many people you want to meet. I remember being a young guy and thinking that Alf was obviously someone everyone had to meet. Of course, being little, you forget about the guy the second the show is canceled. Then you start to admire real people that don't live in fantasy lands or on the Fox network. As a young boy, these people are either sports figures or people you learn about in social studies. As you get a little wiser, you soon realize that all of these people are either skied up on crack, an adulterer or some combination of the two. So where does this leave a young man questioning life itself every day you ask? Well, you pretty much are left wanting to meet people that inspire you and are just good. Not good in the super hero sense but good as in you can trust them to provide to your life in a positive way. That could be through laughs, insight, buying you a scotch or helping you through a tough spot. Everyone sees the world through a different lense and each person can only enrich your everday perspective. That's what I want...
I honestly think my interest in music was born long ago in the hills of Kentucky, let me explain. You see, my grandpappy was born in those hills. Long before I ever opened my eyes to such beautiful sites like Transformers or IHOP pancakes, music was flowing in me. I couldn't help but tap my foot to a stiff drum beat and nod my head in approval of some ripping guitar riff. My musical taste sways from one inspiring band to another. I remember sitting on my fathers lap and listening to the blues as a young guy. It took me a long time to get to the place where he is in terms of hearing the music. He didn't just hear it, he felt it through his soul. Bands like Soundgarden, the White Stipes, the Arcade Fire, the Decemberists, the Black Keys and many others take me to that place. A place where the world melts around you and you are in that singular moment. It is one of the few moments of clarity and peace that I feel at all. It drives me crazy when people tell me that they are just not really into music or don't really like to go to shows. That is a denial of the purest form of expression that I feel there is. It is the only thing artistically that hits my mind and my body. I'm always in search of that next band that touches my senses. I have over 600 hundred cd's now and I will never stop buying...
American Beauty is a perfect film. People need to know that Alan Ball worked on that script for eight years before putting it in front of production companies eyes. That movie moves me in a different way every viewing. If only every person could look at life like Kevin Spacey's character. I love all film really. I'm not saying I like every film because if I said that then I would be raving about Beauty Shop or Earth Girls are Easy. Generally, I prefer comedies like the Big Lebowski, Office Space and the like. I love to laugh, but damnit, you need to cry sometimes. That's where movies like American Beauty come into the picture. You gotta love the Godfather series, Shawshank Redemption and Raging Bull. For my dollar, the 70's produced the greatest era of film that we will ever see. If you are stuck in modern film, head down to your local video shop and look up movies like Dog Day Afternoon, Midnight Cowboy and Serpico.
Ghost huntin, WOOO! If I could have one profession in this life, ghost hunting would be it. Nothing fills me with more joy than watching some crazy New Englander lurking deep in the woods recounting tales of female apparitions knocking on walls or ghostly children giggling in the night. After these ghastly tales are told, Brian and Jay run around a dark house talking to thin air and swearing that a flash of light or shadow is a living, breathing, Scooby Doo type ghost. Do you believe? Also, I love Arrested Development with a passion. Fox took her from me and I have no idea if she will ever return to me again. I only pray that someone picks this amazing show up and gives the fans back their good times. I also love me some Discovery channel. Myth Busters, Dirty Jobs, I'm tingling right now. Niki and I are addicted to the Fine Living channel. Specifically, the Thirsty Traveler. Kevin or whatever his name is (it varies every night with us), travels the world in search of great alcohol and a chance to be overtly Canadian. Nothing is more fun than listening to a drunk, happy and talkative Canadian. I love me a little politics too. I can always go for some CNN, Daily Show, Colbert Report and the Bill Maher show. And of course, NASCAR!.. width="425" height="350" ..
My bread and butter. Well, I really like the Atkins diet and anything by Dr. Phil. I kid, I kid! I am open to all forms of literature but I really prefer early to mid 20th century American literature. I could read F. Scott Fitzgerald any day, afternoon and even some nights. I like me some Faulkner and a dash of Hemmingway as well. I can't just pigeonhole myself and say that is all I like though. I honestly and truthfully love Shakespeare and actually understand some of the things that he is saying. I'm also a big fan of anything that deals with King Arthur. That could be "The Once and Future King" or "Le Morte d'Arthur. Hopefully more contemporary authors like Chabon poke their heads out soon.
My mother and father for sure. They are hard working people that have somehow always found the time to be there for me in such a hectic world. For that, I can never repay them.
