Influences: Twangers was born in the gloom of autumn 1988 in Kuusankoski, Finland. Its first public perfomance took place in the local restaurant Figaro in spring 1989, and later that same spring its song ..Turhat kirjeet..was given an award in a national composing contest organised by the music magazine rumba and YLE..s Rockradio show. The awardwas very motivating for the band. Twangers..first single was released on an indie label in Kouvola in autumn 1990. Another single was released the following spring.
In spring 1992 the band joined Fazer Finnlevy, who first released a single by the band in autumn 1992. The next single, a cover of the old The Turtles hit Elenore with Finnish lyrics by Jaana Korja, was released in early 1993. The band..s first album came out the same year.
Following the release of a CD single in 1994, the band began planning the next fulllenght release with Timo Lindström at Fazer. After Fazer was acquired by Warner, the big bosses decided to direct resources to other projects and the band..s project was delayed.
Eventually, the band grew tired of waiting and gave notice on its contract. Times had changed for the worse, however, and other companies showed no interest in the band.
Twangers continued to perform with the original line-up to the end of 1996, after which Jori Hellsten (bass), Mika Viskari (rhythm gt.) and Petri Tähtinen (drums) left the band. The final gigs took in January 1997.
Torsti And Raili started looking for new people, and as soon as April 1997 a new Twangers was on the road again.
The band..s motto has always been FULL SPEED, SINK OR SWIM..and as its members get older, recovering from a gig takes longer and longer.
Raili Eronen & Twangers have remained totally faithful to their style and their last recording is a fine example of their spirit.
