Born in Denver Colorado, SELKO! is the kid who knew he would scratch, falling in love with the sound before he knew what it was. At age 10, after independently discovering the sound came from moving a record with your hands, he broke the needle on his mother's record player.... Growing up in Thornton Colorado, SELKO! was exposed to the street culture at a young age. Seeing daily gang activity and crime, music became like a refuge/training camp, finding sanctuary in the tapes of LL COOL J, Rob Base and DJ Easy Rock, Ice T and others. At age 15 his mother believed in his dream enough to put $450 on a credit card to get some direct drive turntables and a mixer. "When I started mixing, I used blown ass car speakers and a cheap amp from the 80's" -SELKO By the time SELKO! turned 17, he started paying most of the bills and by then was living on his own. In 1998, Selko! withdrew himself from Standley Lake High School, choosing a school based on credits. Working at his own pace, he graduated in 2000 (a year early). SELKO! continually upgraded his equipment and after completing a solid mix tape, SELKO! quickly realized he did not want to be a DeeJay. He had already been working with the Yamaha RM1X beat machine for a year and had saved up about half the money needed to get a real workstation.In late 2004, SELKO! finally had saved some cash saved and was preparing to purchase the Korg Triton, until discovering the 61 key Yamaha Motif ES-6.............................................Creating this page on 5/29/2008 marks the date SELKO! was financially able to expose his original music to the public, ENJOY.
