Influences: Galaxie 500, Luna, VU, Felt, The Feelies, Kurt Vonnegut, Abbie Hoffman, 60's pop/rock/psych/garage (A-Z: Association - Zombies), Guided by Voices/Robert Pollard/Tobin Sprout, Teenage Fanclub, The Shoes ("we could have been called The Beatles...it's just a name") Scam Artists (2nd best unknown Toronto band...ever!), Andrew Cash (Time @ Place...desert island pick), L'Etranger, The Skydiggers, Jr. Gone Wild, 54 40, Rosewater Foundation (Toronto band circa 92-98...oops i was in that band) The Long Ryders, Jason & the Scorchers, Smithereens, Sour Landslide (another 2nd best relatively unknown Toronto band: please see offshots from this great band: The Benvereens - http://www.myspace.com/thebenvereens, Vince Nicholson (solo) has a super strong release entitled "Haunted" {go to benvereens myspace site or click on Vince on my friends list} and finally Vern Nicholson's solo project Boys in the Wood has a release entitled "postcards from midnight" the boys in the wood release is a beautiful jangle fest of pop hookery. check Vern's site at www.vernnicholson.com) these solo discs are overlooked gems find them, Men at Work (yeah that's what i said...Men at Work), the BoDeans (yeah that's what i said..etc), Hal Blaine's drumming, Lee Hazelwood, Lightnin' Hopkins, Lazarus, Gordon Lightfoot, Bruce Cockburn, Ron Sexsmith, Los Lobos, Rush (the Thurston Moore cool police will never alter my feeling that spirit of the radio @ Limelight are heaven sent), Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Lou Reed (Blue Mask, Legendary Hearts, New York) The Sea @ Cake, the Bongos, the Congos (marvels of 4 track mystery), and well Longoes (fine selection of veggie meats), L.K.J. (Bass Culture), The Goats (the Uncle Scam one is fantastically righteous, the second one i'm unavailable to comment on) Public Enemy, Flava Flave, Flava Flava, Flava Flave, The Disposable Heroes of i don't know how to spell HipHophresy?, Olivia Tremor Control, Flaming Lips, The Pretenders, Borges/Calvino (well, does having them on your bookshelf unread count?) P.K.D. (now him i actually read) The Clash, Billy Bragg, The Only Ones, U2 (sorry indie snobs), The Alarm (yeah i don't care what you say they have some awesome tracks...that first ep..yes), Big Country (Steeltown, no one talks about that FN awesome lp), Andy Kim, Klatuu, Jr. Kimborough, Lenny Breau, Wes Montgomery, Bill Evans (his beautiful stuff, not the "i'm a virtuoso jazz player stuff"...cause i agree with Doc who cares that's just wool over the eyes, Miles Davis, Link Wray, Bones Howe, Harold Budd, Chamber Brothers singing "People get Ready", Elf Power, Science Fiction (A-Z, Asimov - Zelazney), Midnight Oil (Earth Sun Moon lp, Blue sky Mining), Mojave 3/Slowdive/Neil Halstead, Ride, The Chicago 7/8 defendents testimony, William Kuntsler, Z magazine, Znet, Ahrundati Roy, Naomi Klein, Tariq Ali, Edward Said, Howard Zinn, last but never least Chomsky etc.and further more: Robert Sheckley (why is he not nearly is well known as a Vonnegut/Philip k. Dick. Some of his short stories are so prescient/funny/deranged/imaginative/clever that if you have any interest whatso ever in good SF please check him out. Shakespeare on Crack!Jack Vance for the wit/word play/vocabulary/imagination...dying earth series a must for any lover of SF and rogues (especially the first book).
