recap of the first 48-Hour Band Contest:
The first anti-civ Records 48-Hour Band Contestival was a whole lot of fun. We had 35 people register, put all their names in a hat and made bands of good natured strangers. They wrote and rehearsed two original songs in 48 hours, and brought them to the 7th St. Entry for a show of epic proportions. It was a night of 9 bands you've never heard of, and everyone brought something different, interesting and entertaining to the table. The 48-hour-bands that graced the stage of the Entry were:
Pirates Fuck Yeah, We're All the Same Size, The Who Wants to Fucking Touch Me's, Effie, Super WarlockE, Books on Tape, Parasite Hilton, Lard Angel and Ghost Vomit.
Our First Place Winner was The Who Wants to Fucking Touch Me's. Our Second Place Winner was Super WarlockE. Our Last Place Winner was We're All the Same Size. First Prize was a 7-key harmonica set in a handsome case. Second Prize was a three pack of guitar strings and a string winder. We made very large trophies out of many smaller, less extravagant trophies, and gave those away, too.
Thank you to everybody that participated in the bands or the organization. Your hard work made this event amazing.
We are already in the process of putting the next one together. We took a lot of lessons away from this first one, so it will be bigger and better. Look for it around the end of August or beginning of September, and regularly after that. This Myspace page will be a good way to keep up to date.
