About BMI:
BMI is a performing rights organization that collects money for songwriters & music publishers when their music is played for the public. (radio, tv, internet, live concerts, etc.) We were formed in 1939 to represent songwriters in new and emerging forms of music like blues, jazz, rocknroll, bluegrass and country.
A few of the songwriters & bands that call BMI home include the Gorillaz, Conor Oberst, Amos Lee, Death Cab for Cutie, Drive By Truckers, Joss Stone, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the Click 5, White Stripes, Alison Krauss, Calexico, My Chemical Romance, James Blunt, My Morning Jacket, Rilo Kiley, Aqualung, Bloc Party, the Concretes, Juan MacLane, the Starting Line, the Bravery and the Redwalls. As well as some of the true legends of the music biz such as John Lennon, Elvis, James Brown, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Roy Orbison, Sam Cooke, Isaac Hayes, and many more.
Joining BMI is free and easy, and doing so has many benefits for songwriters and artists at all career levels. Our workshops, showcases and other programs help you grow while making new connections with other music creators just like you.
