About Me

Open Doors is a 501c3 American-run nonprofit organization devoted to changing the lives of abandoned children and impoverished families in Romania. The aftermath of Ceausescu's regime (1965-1989) left behind a range of economic, social and political problems which continue to exist today. Widespread poverty is still a major issue in many areas, as is child abandonment and overcrowding in orphanages.
Our mission is to start programs that will break the cycle of poverty, ignorance and abandonment entrapping so much of the Romanian population. To that end, we work to provide foster homes for children from Romanian orphanages. We also run a community center for underprivileged children in Bistrita, Romania, which offers daycare, afternoon homework help, warm meals, showers, and clothing.
