RUB THE BUDDHA

About Me

Rub the Buddha was an Edinburgh punk band formed in the late eighties and ending in the early nineties. Often described as the worst band to take a stage. ( a coveted title for any punk band in Edinburgh at that time.) They disbanded in 1993. The recordings heard here were made shortly before their demise. They were often the warm up act for bands such as Oi Polloi and Swine Flu. They had songs that left some of their audience confused- "police women fight like fuck" and also the all time classic song about gear being better in the future "future hash creates less ash costs less cash you should be sucking on future hash." They had a song that was heavily influenced by the upstarts called "I'm a western phenomonom" about how punks were a western phenomonom. Their songs often left their members confused and it was not uncommon for the vocalist to request that drummer Nick Nihilistic stop playing as the song had ended some minutes ago. Mykel Board described them in maximum rock and roll as "drunk staggering funny." Band members went on to be long term members of Oi Polloi, Happy Spastics and the Newtown Grunts. Nick Nihilistic went into joinery, no one interupts him banging now.
