the Brooklyn rooftop theatre experiment starts this fall!
Welcome to sunny Marfa (pop. 2,121), in the high desert of far west Texas, where friends and lovers just like you come swarming in land-rovers and used station wagons to partake in the wonder of the great outdoors, and where half a million owls have suddenly, inexplicably migrated. It’s here, just outside of town, where you’ll meet two couples- each seeking solace under the open sky after a devastating personal loss and hoping to catch a glimpse of the ‘Marfa Lights’, mysterious phenomena which appear between dusk and dawn. When night falls, however, and an unexpected visitor wanders into camp, They’ll each be driven to their own drastic methods of self-recovery as reality and communication become increasingly imperiled. A nativity play about crickets, fairies, pink elephants, insomnia, horoscopes, delirium tremens, UFOs, tennis, and the joy of magnets.
marfa Lights is presented in association with The Sandwich Box, www.thesandwichboxsite.org, a Denmark-based travelling lysthus (tent) which has been changing hands internationally between artists since 2003. It is directed by Julie Rossman (Mourn The Living Hector , Cloud 9, Ronald Pelican).
Casey Wimpee is a short fiction writer and playwright living with his wife in Brooklyn, NY.
