Nolan Strong’s Diablos

About Me

The current Diablos group, with original Fortune recording member Jay Johnson, preserves the legacy of the original Diablos group. Nolan Strong passed away many years ago, but Jay Johnson, who joined the Diablos in 1956, carries the Diablos torch, and tries to keep the current group close to the original sound.
The Diablos were one of the most influential pre-Motown artists to come out of Detroit. The were inducted into the U.G.H.A. (United In Group Harmony) Hall of Fame in 2003 and in March of 2008 were also inducted into Harvey Robins' Doo-Wopp Hall Of Fame of America. The Diablos are availble for booking through this site, or from the Diablos website page.
Detroit's legendary Diablos , with original member and Fortune recording artist Jay Johnson, are still performing. The current lineup came together in 2007 and has performed to delighted audiences in Pittsburgh , Boston, Florida, and CT. In March, 2008 the Diablos were inducted into the Doo-Wopp Hall Of Fame Of America® . The Diablos are available for booking through this website. Band Members: Nolan Strong's Diablos is under the leadership of original member and Fortune recording artist Jay Johnson.
Influences: R&B, R&R and Gospel music from the 1940's and early 1950's.
Sounds Like: The original Diablos had their own unique sound which influenced many other 1950's-60's R&B/R&R groups, especially in and around Detroit. Original lead singer Nolan Strong was influenced to some degree by the work of Clyde McPhatter with the Dominos and early Drifters. Nolan in turn was a major influence on Smokey Robinson and many other R&B/Soul singers.
Some of the Diablos classic songs are:
"The Wind" - "Mind Over Matter" - "If I, Oh I" - "Mambo Of Love" - "Ooh Those Eyes" - "Beside You" - "Adios My Desert Love" - I Wanna Know" - "Since You're Gone" - "Route 16" - "Do You Remember What You Did" - "Daddy Rockin' Strong" - and many more.
