The Markdowns of Tempe, Arizona started in 1997 when Benny Hammond and Arunas Leskys met in Las Vegas in front of the Double Down Saloon. The both quickly realized they had something in common. Benny was a lead guitarist who's band had just broken up and Arunas was in a band that needed a lead guitarist. The trouble was, the band that Arunas was playing with were in Tempe Arizona and Benny lived in Henderson, Nv. Two weeks later Benny moved to Tempe and then the Markdowns were formed. They played high energy shows in shiny golden jackets from 1997 to 1999.
