RAMONA GILLARD

About Me

"... very captivating - her beautiful melodies, unusual chord changes, and surprising rhythms are an outward expression of her deep warmth and humor. It is so hard to describe her music because it is such a wild mixture of influences not only from one song to another, but also sometimes even within one song. In one moment it is a folk ballad and in the next it is jazz, in another moment you could imagine you are being serenaded by a gypsy songbird, and the next moment you are in an African chanting session. I feel like somehow she is expanding the boundaries of musical possibility.I have never known anyone so constantly inspired and so gifted with melody. Her guitarwork is surprising, innovative, and flawless. Ramona is a channel for something new and more, something deep and universal, and she has the technical skills to realize this into sound. Listen to her!" Marian Russell ............................................................ ............................................................ ...........  In the centre of all this are songs, perfectly flowing back and forth between cosmopolitan jazz and folk. Unpredictable, yet remarkably moving, with delicate melodies and often surprising instrumental arrangements. Raya O. Coal..s music is positive and warming, it goes straight to your heart.Jazzzeit Vienna, August 2002........................................................ ............................................................ ...............Born close to the lake of constance in July 1973. Both of my grandfathers have been in 2. worldwar and came back home. my grandparents ran a laundry where I grew up. Water, washing mashines, steam, warmth were my very first impressions. I loved to be there, listening to my grandmothers storys. War has always been present in my childhood. I started to play the flute with 5. and since that i love music, learned to play several instruments with very good teachers! I started to write my own music with 13. Songs. But songs not for entertainment, but for getting in touch - with myself- high and low ... wild and peaceful -..... male and female .... and the world around me. I sing in my mothertongue, an alemannic dialect. I hope you like the sound of this language. My songs are all about love - so everybody can understand it.
