Sometimes, the right musical situation is a matter of being in the right place at the right time. At other times, it's a matter of great things developing over a long period of time. For the members of Arkay, it's a combination of both. The members of Arkay met each other on the local music scene over a year before they played their first show together, when guitarist RaymondC walked in on singer RobbK's rehearsal with his previous band at a local music club. The rest - as it goes - is history. The group soon made fast friends and became supportive fans at one another's bands' live shows, making regular appearances when each one would be playing around town. When each band dissolved, RobbK and RaymondC managed to stay in touch with each other just in case the right situation came around, and in February of 2008...it finally did. RobbK's former project - known as "RK" - was scheduled to do some acoustic festival shows through the spring and summer of 2008 when they decided to thicken the sound up with the addition of more musicians...and that included Ray. The group kicked off their 2008 tour on May 3rd. Needing a name rather than the initials "RK", the band quickly settled on the phonetic spelling of the letters R and K, alas Arkay was born. Searching for a deeper meaning behind the name, it was soon discovered that "Arkay" is the "God of the Cycle of Life and Death" in the world of the online game "The Elder Scrolls". It was also discovered that "Arkay" was a popular brand of record players in the 1960's and a common surname on the continent of Africa. Whatever the meaning, the name stuck, and thus Arkay was born. In August of 2008 the band entered the studio to begin recording their debut album, "The Cycle of Life and Death". The album was originally due out in October but because of various issues with recording the album has been put on hold while Arkay decided to re-dedicate themselves to their live show. Arkay released their first single, "Excuses", to myspace and internet rock radio on August 2nd, 2008, and immediately became a myspace hit for the guys...peaking at over 400 plays for the day of September 25th. The band's second single "One Long Night", was released on November 20th, and it, too has proven to be a successful release. After taking off during the holidays of 2008 for a much-needed rest, Arkay announced the first dates of their 2009 tour on January 14th, and kicked-off their 2009 Tour on February 12th in their hometown of Monroe for 3 straight nights and will be hitting the road for shows throughout the year, including opening for several signed, national touring acts.
