Petar Ralchev,accordion,has established a styleof hisown which has left its mark on the style of the different orchestra he has performed with.He defines it as virtuosity,melodiousness,rich harmony and improvisation.
Petar Ralchev was born on August 26,1991 in the village Poibrene,Pazardjik district,but soon after his parents moved to the village Ivailo,now is the suburbs of Pazardjik.Aged five only,he played by ear the first folk tunehe heard from his uncle,an amateur musician.His parents enrolled him into music school and it was there that he began,from from the very first grade,to learn the secrets of the accordion under the guidance of Kostadin Milarov.Later he was admitted into Secondary School of Music in Plovdiv,in mihail Mihailov’s class.Those were the years which provided a solid basis that has influenced his overall growth as a musician.
His repertoire at the time already included works that established his performance mastership.In 1977 he has awarded the First Prize at the Young Musician Competition held in Chirpan while later on,at the International Competition in Klingental,Germany,he has acknowledged for his performance of a Bulgarian piece.
Petar Ralchev has been in touch with folk music from early childhood.At the first he played together with hos cousin,Chavdar Ralchev,also accordionist,and later opted for a solo career.Duringhis training at the Plovdiv School of Music he met another musician,the violinist Georgi Yanev,and the two boys quickly found a common language,that of folk music.They started by playing diferrent popular themes and later composed tunesof their own.This was how the Orpheus Orchestra was set up and Petar Ralchev has been its member ever sincs graduating from school in 1983.
The quick fame of Orpheus did not escape the attention of many prominent Bulgarian musicians.Within a couple of years PeTAR Ralchev made nine releases of his performances,both solo and together with violinist Georgi Yanev and clarinetist Ivo Papazov,along with two more,of jazz-folk music by Dimitar Trifonov in team work with other famous musicians.He has enjoyed a successful collaboration with yet another musician from Thrace,clarinetist Delcho Mitev.The two of them founded the Thracians Orchestra.Ralchev is holder for award for a solo performance at the prestigious folk festival in Stambolovo,Bulgaria.
In 1991 he toured the maior USA cities with Bulgary,a quntet performing Bulgarian folk music.During this tour they played in the Smithsonian Institute,the Library of Congress in Washington,and took part in a 30-minute broadcast on The Voice of America,amongst other appearances.Mr.Ralchev also held extensive seminars at the Center for East-European Studies in Eugene,Washington,teaching Bulgarian Music.In Canada he has performed in Vancouver and at the International Accordeon Festival of Montmagny in Quebec and Montreal in the summers of 1991-92,and took part in a live broadcast on CBS.He has included in the History of Accordeon,published in France in 1991 by Francois Billard and Didier Roussin.Ne has also played in Germany,Hungary and Russia.In 1996 he was on three month tour in Germany as accordionist and conductor of a male choir which performed Orthodox chants.
Petar Ralchev’ art has stipped lively interest among musicians from all over the world.One of them was the famous Norwegian Accordionist Stian Carstensen.After their first meeting,Petr Ralchev was invited to perform at Oslo konserthus.He visited Norway several times,taking part in accordion and jazz festivals,in concerts and seminars.
In 2000 he released two more albums,with thw German group BATORU and a CD of ethno-jazz music,in a trio with Bulgarian percussionist Stoyan Yankoulov and guitarist Ateshhan Youseinov.It was with this formationthet he toured in Germanyand appeared at the JAZZ ACCROS THE BORDER festival in Berlin and in the popular jazz club Quazimodo.His tours included France,Turkey,Dermany and USA.
