About Me

UMGPE is just starting out! Any help is appreciated! If you loved the muppets and costumes of Star Wars, cringed at the real insects in Temple of Doom, or fell in love with adorable and realistic E.T. ...this UMGPE is for you!If you covered your eyes when beloved Yoda became CGI , wondered why Dobby in Harry Potter couldn't be a cute muppet instead, decided not to see a movie because of bad CGI, or cried when you saw CGI prairie dogs in Indiana Jones 4, join our righteous cause! We believe that practical effects (movie effects used without computer generated imagery-CGI) are more effective and realistic. Many of today's films seem to have forgotten the movie MAGIC of practical effects, and are using EXCESSIVE and UNNECESSARY CGI. We want to see LESS CGI and MORE PRACTICAL EFFECTS! BRING BACK THE GREAT AMERICAN MOVIE!

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Our Creed (in progress):United Movie-Goers for Practical Effects! Save Our Movies! We encourage the return of practical effects ( special effects used without a computer) to our nation’s live action films:We understand CGI does not always suck (not always). However, in MOST CASES, we believe it is the practical effects that gave our movies their magic. We promote and long for the return of:*Animatronics *Models *Stunts *Muppets and puppets *Costumes *Use of materials and natural elements *Effective filming/angles over CGI *Sets *Scenery *REAL animals distinguished *Lighting effects *Camera tricks *Real fire *Fake (liquid) blood *Real explosions *Choreographed fight scenes *We believe directors should spend less time on CGI Characters and more time on…CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT.We ARE NOT anti-CGI artists or programmers and understand that many of these people are talented and brilliant. We simply believe practical effects make a film much more real. We believe, that *usually, CGI LOOKS BLARINGLY FAKE AND DISTRACTS FROM THE MOVIE.We understand CGI has put many costume designers, stunt men and women, puppeteers, make-up and costume artists, set designers, etc. OUT OF WORK. : (We believe, In most cases, scenes and sets work better than CGI backgrounds and they make the film more real.We are not *always against the use of CGI, however, we do believe the use of the medium in today’s films is EXCESSIVE. We are strongly against the use of excessive and/or unnecessary CGI.We understand that CGI can produce good results when it is done right. Some films, like 300, use CGI well. However, we argue that there are other options USUALLY available. We strongly oppose the use of ANY living/lifelike/undead character in a live action film fully represented by CGI (this includes people, characters, ghosts, aliens, animals, zombies, monsters, fantasy beings, gods, you get the idea…) We believe using CGI instead of animatronics, actors, costumes, puppets, muppets, or good special effects is inexcusable. We believe characters or lifelike beings used for CGI ALWAYS stands out and ALWAYS takes soul/life/love away from the film and character. We agree to promote and support live action movies that utilize practical effects over CGI.We are not anti-CGI animated films. (Though some of our members may prefer 2D animation). We understand that some CGI animated movies are well written and visually stunning. Our cause is for live action films only.We strongly believe that CGI gives films a cold, lifeless, quality. Practical effects give films life and wonder. We want movie magic to return!Movie -Goers HAVE spoken. CGI (usually) does NOT look good.BRING BACK THE GREAT AMERICAN MOVIE!United Movie Goers for Practical Effects
