Eastern Europe is one of the last places people would associate with Pop music. For Ukrainian born singer/songwriter Lana MÃr, New York City seemed like a logical place to move. Her voice has a soft, sultry, refined quality that's reminiscent of Sade, Astrud Gilberto, or Dido, but with her Ukrainian accent there's a unique freshness about it.
She began her music career as a teenage, spokes-singer for the Ukraine's largest radio station, not liking the confines of the music that was being performed there at the time she relocated to New York and began performing Brazilian/Jazz standards at local clubs. Songs such as The Boy From Ipanema and How Insensitive allowed her to hone in on her delicate approach to singing and find her voice.
For the past few months Lana has been writing/demo-ing material, aiming to release an album by 2009. Shows and demos to be posted here over the next few months. Stay tuned!
