When asked the age old question, "How long have you been singing?", Etta's response is, "as long as I've been living", because she cannot remember a day in her life when she was not singing or humming a tune.
While growing up in her native town of Savannah, Georgia, Etta was exposed to a variety of music. However, not until her family moved to Philadelphia did she pursue formal training at The Settlement Music School and later through private vocal coaching. She also gained experience by performing as a lead vocalist in several R&B and Pop bands.
Philadelphia, being the jazz town that it is, soon brought its style to Etta's ears, so quite naturally she developed a love for hearing as well as performing jazz.
Equally at home with Jazz, R&B, and Pop, Etta's sweet and sultry voice has been heard in many Philadelphia night spots such as Zanzibar Blue, The Blue Moon Jazz Club, The Philadelphia Clef Club and Gloria's Cafe. She has also performed at many of the festivals: Odunde, The African American Festival and The Cape May Jazz Festival. Her repertoire and talents have also expanded to include African percussion and traditional songs.
Etta has performed locally with her own ensemble and as a featured vocalist with The Owen Brown Band, renowned South African Drummer Mogauwane Mahloele, and as a member of the internationally known Voices of Africa. She has also shared the stage with such prestigious entertainers as Celine Dion, Gloria Lynn, Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes, and Enchantment.
Etta's vocal talents can be heard on the following recordings: Voices of Africa: "We Are Women and We Play Drums"; Chestnut Brother's "Brotherly Love"; Owen Brown's "Friends" and Gerald Young's "Do Nothing Till You Hear From Me".
Currently, she is in the studio working on her solo project.
SO, STAY TUNED!
