Alexa

Alexa is a singer songwriter born and raised in the heart of London's trendy and somewhat grimey cultural hot spot Camden Town. She excelled in music from an early age, was singing and playing the piano by age 5 and composing music by age 9. Alexa and her two older brothers grew up with an old upright piano in the room they shared in their small flat which meant many sleepless nights for their parents! Alexa's mother is from the Philippines and her father is from New Zealand and this unusual mix is reflected in the diversity of music she grew up listening to.At age 17 Alexa joined a girl band and spent nearly 3 years getting used to writing, recording songs and singing with a group. One song called "fly away" which was written by her and another band member Sonya Dyer was picked up and rerecorded by the UK artist Skepta.By the time she was in her final year at university studying for a degree in Human Biology, Alexa had started doing solo work and began collaborating with different producers. She wrote a song called "I got you" featuring UK artist Bigs in 2005 which used the Ying Yang twins whisper song beat and this subsequently was aired on BBC1xtra by DJ Cameo.After this successful collaboration, in 2006 Alexa went on to do the backing vocals and featured in the video for Ministry of Sound's release "Never Wanna Say" with lead vocalist E.C. and Doctor. This reached number 17 in the UK charts and Number 1 in the MTV Base chart.Since then Alexa has graduated from University and taken music into her own hands. The song "This is Me" was written by her just last month and produced by the talented Joe Fields whose production formed a large part of Amy McDonald's double platinum selling debut album "This is the Life".Although she feels she has a lot to learn about being a songwriter and developing her own sound, it is clear that Alexa definitely has the talent and potential to become a great success of her generation.
