STONE FOX...one of the best things about San Francisco throughout the Ninties. After a few false starts between 1990 and 1994, the group got it right in the summer of '94 which is when they were asked to play on the same bill for a Runaways semi-reunion. STONE FOX, a band of 4 chicks and a revolving door of male drummers, was a favorite on the local music scene, selling out their shows whether they played a Wednesday night at the Kilowatt or an all ages acoustic set at Bottom of the Hill on a Sunday afternoon. They were THAT good.
The band released 4 CDs: BURNT, STONE FOX, DIRTY PILLOWS, and TOTALLY BURNT - which was their debut record re-released with live tracks and previously unreleased tracks. Also, a bootleg of a live Stone Fox show has been floating around since 1998...good stuff if ya can get one.
The beauty of this band is their versatility. They played nasty loud sweaty unflinching rock and roll, but they were also known for their more quiet acoustic sets where we'd hear tame versions of their songs and maybe even hear a little bit of washboard. It was this infamous talent of STONE FOX that allowed the band to open for both Metallica AND Tammy Wynette...on different nights, of course.
After 3 tours of The States, in 1998 the band decided to unplug the guitars and toss the maracas aside. STONE FOX never said "good bye". STONE FOX merely said "manana". Stay tuned....
