China Syndrome

About Me

The China Syndrome sound is a fine blend of the driving pop hooks of The New Pornographers and Fountains of Wayne, with liberal dollops of old favourites such as the Replacements, XTC and the Kinks. Our debut album was recorded at JC/DC Studio in Vancouver under the keen production eyes and ears of David Carswell (Smugglers, Evaporators), with help from The New Pornographers’ John Collins, the team responsible for great recent discs by Destroyer, Immaculate Machine, Tegan and Sara, and Bella among many others.Check out four songs from our album right here on our MySpace page. Thanks to Gord Berry and Matt Gibson for their tremendous bass and drums respectively on the album. If you like what you hear, you can buy our album from iTunes--just click here:

the talk so far

"The debut self-titled CD will remind you of everything you love about power pop! Filled with catchy hooks, bouncy guitars, upbeat vocals and harmonies reminiscent of such greats as XTC, The Replacements, and Badfinger, as well as more modern purveyors such as Fountains of Wayne, this is one CD that should be on everyone's 'must have' list!"from International Pop Overthrow, West Coast 2008 program
" I spent some time perusing bands outside of the Seattle area this weekend, and I came across a band from East Vancouver (Canada, that is) called China Syndrome, and they provided me with my "song of the weekend" in a little ditty called "Here Comes That Monday Feeling".
With vocals vaguely reminiscent of Andy Partridge and a classic powerpop guitar bounce, this is the perfect Monday song to kickoff your work week."SEATTLE POWERPOP BLOG, July 15/06 Us at the Fairview Pub, Jan 18/08
