Broken Wheel

About Me

Broken Wheel are a three piece acoustic act from Manchester. Attempting to bring back the vocal stylings of some of the great blues legends, Broken Wheel members Karen Ryan, Andrew Kaar and Adrian Moss are trying to create a modern blues/jazz sound, with a purely acoustic backing.
Born and raised in Newton Heath, Manchester, Karen Ryan followed some of the great blues singers such as Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday et al. Primarily singing around the Failsworth area she has attracted much attention and interest from the local music scene, and not wanting to become a 'covers' artist or cabaret act, Karen turned her attention to writing her own material and forming her own band. An advert seeking like minded musicians attracted Andrew's attention, and it was in response to this that the pair met.
Andrew Kaar was born and bred in Levenshulme, but has resided in Chorlton for the last decade. He picked up the guitar aged 16 and has long since wanted to emulate the guitar and musical style of 70's singer/songwriter John Martyn. He has plenty of experience gigging and working as an acoustic act, being one half of 'Kaar and McCumesky' for well over 8 years. After an unsuccessful bout as a guitarist in an experimental band, he turned his attention once again to the acoustic blues/jazz styling he has long been in love with.
Adrian Moss has been playin for over 20 years, has performed in numerous bands and as a solo pianist at many pubs/clubs/restaurants/weddings around the North west and surrounding areas. Adrian has been in quite a few covers bands over the years doing Indie stuff, but discovered the great Jazz tunes of artists such as Nina Simone and Dave Brubeck and has developed a unique funky style of playing influenced also by pianists such as Jools Holland. Adrian met Karen by pure chance on a night out in Failsworth when she mentioned she was looking for a pianist. After a first promising Jam session, is excited about being a part of Broken wheel
Broken Wheel are currently in the process of writing and recording new material and getting things underway. The ultimate aim is to form a band around their nucleus, but first want to form a strong identity and musical style.
Please leave a comment on your thoughts of their material. Constructive criticism (or just outright praise!) is much appreciated.
