-ABOUT TOA-
In Nottingham, there is only one venue for unsigned and up-and-coming bands across all genres and you are guaranteed a electrifying, raw, in-your-face experience unlike any other venue. And you never know, the band you are watching might just be on the verge of something big - and you can say you were there, right at the start. For example: Oasis, Kasabian and The Arctic Monkeys are just some of the world-famous bands that have played our venue as they kicked off their long road to stardom.
-HISTORY-
The Old Angel has stood in The Lace Market since at least the 1600's. The Grade II Listed building has a long and colourful history - it has been the site of two murders in the 1700’s (a policeman and a prostitute!) and was formerly both a brothel and a chapel. The building is still said to be haunted by the ghost of the young prostitute - her soul trapped forever in the ancient walls.
Deep underneath the building - down steep winding stairs below the beer cellar, are caves, hollowed out of the sub-soil in the shape of a crucifix and although the old Chapel with its double height ceilings is now the famous gig venue, the old church pews lie upstairs, perfectly preserved, a relic of the buildings ancient history
The Old Angel featured extensively in Gene Simmons' Rock School and has also appeared in a diverse range of TV programs, including on BBC Nottingham at the introduction of the smoking ban and recently on Channel 5's Pets Behaving Badly.
