I am a filmmaker, musician and sportsman. At this present moment film is my career direction. The University College of Creative Arts in Farnham is where I study my Film and Video degree. I specialize in editing and sound however I enjoy writing scripts and telling stories.
My ideas in film are contrived from the influence of realism. Although I may portray my influences in a completely different way to what many people believe to be natural. Here’s an example; someone is absolutely petrified of insects and they are quietly sitting outside on the patio in the dark. He/she hears a buzzing sound and quickly jumps up and turns round to investigate that noise. When he/she immediately identifies that sound the sound becomes the most inconceivable sound that they could ever experience. This is the point where I like turning reality into a surreal performance. Even focusing on small things like mispronunciations of words. I like to emphasise that more to make the reality seem plausible but not quite probable.
I was once walking along the quay side in Newcastle Upon Tyne when I discovered that I could make a funny noise from my mouth. I was about five years old at the time but that day changed my life. I found that I could listen to music any time I wanted just by opening my big fat mouth and belting out combinations of mental noises. I then later discovered that I could use this musical ability to help me in lessons! At school in my maths class I learnt how to play the ruler. This might sound impossible but oh no, it isn't. If you hit the side of a table at a certain angle, at different lengths, adjacent to the dodeccahedron then you can create some wicked sounds.
Anyway I soon became increasingly musical and found myself pissing everyone off with my own arbitrary arrangement of sounds.
I believe the reason why I am a musician is because I seem to listen to the sound of someone speaking to me rather than what they are actually saying. Therefore there is a slight delay in my calculation of what they are saying. Some people think I am not listening to them but most of my friends have later come to realise that I have a delay and get used to it. Someone asked me “If you had a choice to keep your eyes or your ears what would you keep?†I said “My earsâ€. I can’t live without hearing.
Sport is my hobby that never made me a professional. I was always sporting even when I was 11 when I became the best badminton player in Essex under 12s. I am extremely competitive and will always try to win something even if I am playing against my dog at chess. There is something about all sports that makes me feel electric man! When you pot the black in snooker with a bit of screw and set yourself up for the next red nicely then its not static electricity you’re feeling oh no, its something else because there was no kick in that shot I tell ya!
