Narr

Le projet Narr apparaît en novembre 2003, par besoin pour son géniteur Clément Werner de retourner à une vérité oubliée, enfouie sous les décombres de l’imagination. Narr est l’histoire de ce voyage retour, loin de la réalité immédiatement perceptible et de son arrogance, ayant pour base une démarche strictement personnelle et introspective, et ayant pour fin la libération de l’imaginaire et des perceptions. De fait, les compositions et les textes de Narr, en tant que langage utilisé pour dire ce récit, présentent une certaine liberté dans leurs formes, entorses au conformisme et à la rationalisation de ce qui n’est pas rationnel par nature, mettant en jeu au contraire un processus de densification, à l’instar des rêves et de la poésie.
L’interprétation des compositions de Clément Werner (auteur/compositeur/bassiste du projet) ne commence véritablement qu’en juillet 2004, lorsque deux autres musiciens se joignent à lui : Marti Ilmar Uibo à la batterie, et Kalevi Uibo à la guitare, tous deux impliqués aussi bien dans la musique ancienne (ensemble Tormis) que dans le jazz (Cirque Lunaire) ou le death metal (Bloody Sign). Cette réunion donne lieu aux premières répétitions, au cours desquelles des morceaux comme « Zepter Des Narren », «La Dune Bleue » ou « La Lyre Cornue Pleure » sont joués. L’irréalité caractérisant le monde de Narr s’étend à l’organisation du projet, ces répétitions instrumentales jalonnant un travail permanent d’élaboration mené par Clément.
C’est ainsi qu’à travers le temps et en quelque sorte hors de lui, le mouvement « Oxymore Dans La Chrysalide Des Rêves » est composé. En juillet 2007, le groupe est invité en résidence d’artistes pour une semaine à la Condition Publique, structure organisant spectacles et évènements culturels à proximité de Lille, ce qui permet sa préparation à l’enregistrement studio de ce premier mouvement. De septembre 2007 à mai 2008 ont alors lieu les sessions d’enregistrement, dans un studio situé dans le flanc des montagnes anciennes des Vosges. L’album donne à cette vision qu’est Narr le portrait mouvant auquel elle aspirait, déploiement complet grâce aux parties de flûte traversière jouées par Laurent Lefebvre (ancien membre de Cirque Lunaire également, qui rejoint Narr en octobre), grâce au chant à plusieurs voix (Clément pour les parties plus graves et solo, Marti pour les parties plus hautes) et à l’expérimentation menée par les musiciens retranscrivant cette réalité (entre autres, les parties de kannel – harpe estonienne – et de percussions telles que spring drum jouées par Marti). Le labyrinthe porte son souffle jusqu’à nous, amorce d’un autre voyage…
The Narr project was created in November 2003, as a means for its source Clément Werner to take up with a dismissed level of reality, concealed in the veils of onirism. Narr is the telling of this journey back, far from outermost reality, far from what it dares to claim, with a sheer personal and introspective basis, and the release of perception and imagination as an end. To tell this story, the compositions and the texts of Narr emanate as shapes of their own, irreverent of conformism and of the bias that rationalizes what simply is not rational – instead, they follow dreams and poetry toward density.
The compositions of Clément Werner (author/composer/bass player of the project) were actually first interpreted in July 2004, when two other musicians joined him: Marti Ilmar Uibo on drums, and Kalevi Uibo on guitar, both of them involved in ancient music (the Tormis ensemble), in jazz (Cirque Lunaire) as well as in death metal (Bloody Sign). This reunion led to the first rehearsals, during which pieces such as “Zepter Des Narren”, “La Lyre Cornue Pleure” or “La Dune Bleue” were invoked. The unreality peculiar to the world of Narr extended to the project organization, since these instrumental rehearsals punctuated Clément's constant gathering of visions through words and sounds.
Throughout time, out of time, the “Oxymore Dans La Chrysalide Des Rêves” movement was composed. In July 2007, the band was invited for a week in the artists’ residence of La Condition Publique, a cultural structure located near Lille, which made the preparation for the recording sessions possible. Then, the recording process took place from September 2007 to May 2008 amidst the ancient mountains of the Vosges. The album granted the vision of Narr the echo it was longing for, unfurled by the flute parts played by Laurent Lefebvre (former member of Cirque Lunaire too, he joined Narr in October), by the vocals that Clément (for the lower and solo parts) and Marti (for the upper parts) performed, and by the experimental parts in which the musicians indulged as messengers of this reality (among others, the kannel parts – Estonian harp – and percussions such as spring drum performed by Marti). The maze is blowing its breath unto our faces, the seed of another journey…
