About Me

Most of Matt Ritter's life so far has revolved around his uncanny passion for the art of drumming. Over the years, this passion has led him to delve into a multitude of different musical styles. His first performances were in talent shows and clubs, playing rock music with his brother, Justin, on guitar. He later explored jazz, gigging with a number of celebrated New York City jazz musicians and briefly leading his own group. Over the years, he has also played a fair share of musical theater, including a national tour of "Hello, Dolly" and subbing Off-Broadway.
Recently, Matt has been directing his eclectic drumming skills back toward the music which inspired him to drum in the first place- pop/rock. He can regularly be heard drumming with Nikki Maoz's WHIRL.
In addition to performing, Matt has been heavily involved in drum education. He is easily one of New York City's most in-demand drum instructors, typically teaching 20 to 30 hour-long private lessons per week! He also occasionally writes articles for Modern Drummer magazine. His instructional DVD, Bass Drum Techniques For Today's Drummer: Unburying The Beater, is widely recognized as the world's most thorough bass drum tutorial. It has been receiving accolades from beginners and drumming legends alike.
