ZOMBIE DOG article from MUSIC FEEDS 6/2/09 Written by Thomas Mitchell
When most people think of promoters they conjure up the image of a scheming Don King, with outrageous hair and weighed down by his hand jewelry. Alas Glenn from Zombie Dog is bucking that trend, he’s a promoter with a heart, dedicated to local music.
After forming Caringbah Bizzos in 1991, which became a musical rose in a proverbial thorn bush, Zombie Dog began booking bands like it was no ones business. However time chipped away at his dream and fast forward to the present and Glenn was toiling on a building site, working as a contractor. Then the sound of one band reignited his passion for promoting and he’s back where he started, rocking out like it’s 1991.
“I am finally doing what I love again. After sitting down to listen to a friends new band, Life Adjustment Disorder I got so excited that I decided I would try to get them some gigs. As you know it’s hard getting a new band on the scene a show, so I booked out venues and put on my own nights. This is how Zombie Dog was born.”
Part of the Zombie Dog goal is to break through the tough Sydney music scene, booking different genres on different nights, trying to cater to lots of fans rather then exclusively to hardcore lovers.
“Zombie Dog Entertainment is about putting on diverse shows. Hearing three Stoner - Punk bands, in a row can be a little boring, after a while they all start to sound the same. That’s why I like to mix it up a little. Who said you have to have three hardcore bands together?” Despite the lofty ambitions held by Zombie Dog he has been experiencing some resistance. The Sydney scene is known for its exclusivity, more segregated then a New Orleans bus in the sixties.
“There is too much segregation in the Sydney band scene. Scenes become pathetic, small circles of friends which is pretty damn pretentious really. Maybe that’s why most bands don’t survive more than 3 or 4 years. This is why I try to mix up the bands I put on my bills.”
One band that has been consistently on Zombies’ bill are Life Adjustment Disorder. Rising from the ashes of two former bands, these hardcore bandits have been making waves, and exciting punters with their high tempo shows and monosyllabic name.
“These guys know how to pack a punch. Songs that vary from punk, country, Greek wedding songs to a little ballad with Kazoo’s. You never know what you are going to get with a live set from L.A.D.”
The birth of the digital age, and something called the “Recession” (which is nothing like Recess) could’ve spelt disaster for the live music scene. But Zombie Dog has placed his faith in the fans, and believes the magic of the live experience is better then any You Tube clip, Guitar Hero battle or headphone session.
“The day that there is an iPod that makes you sweat, spills beer on you, gives you a bleeding nose, or even sets you up with a gorgeous rock chick, I will quit, for these are the reasons that people go to see gigs and leave us with (very blurry) memories for life. You will never take away the live experience.”
As if becoming a promoter, reviving some old hardcore bands and legally taking the name Zombie Dog wasn’t enough, Glenn will also be holding a charity gig called Monster Sessions to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis sufferers.
“Monster Session is the vision of Zombie Dog Entertainment and OutbackRnR to create a festival event to raise money and awareness for MS as there is no known cure. It was first talked about last year after a gig where I saw Jo from the Blitz Babiez. Jo remembered that my mum had MS back in the day, she came up and told me that she had been diagnosed 7 years ago.
Well that’s all it took. We decided to try to get all these old school bands out of retirement to try to raise some awareness and money for MS AUSTRALIA.”
The charity gig is a great excuse to drink heavily and not feel bad about yourself. An added bonus will be the long list of bands lending their services to this feel good concert, which all equates to a messy but fun night. Just the way we like it.

LIFE ADJUSTMENT DISORDER
Being one of the most exciting bands that i have heard in a long time, thus getting me back into the industry
Formed around 4 years ago by ex Brit Dacky Boy and Caringbah Local Mikey B, both having met playing in bands in the early 90’s Syd punk-hardcore scene.
L.A.D, completed by El.B.J on drums and Danson Benson on bass, offer a unique and individual take on numerous styles and genres.
“As a band we like to explore the smorgasbord of influences we have gorged on and digested as individuals over the years. We have boiled up, simmered and reduced these sumptuous, hearty ingredients into a spicy eclectic stew that’s whilst not always easy on the palette, will cater, ‘ tapas style’ to any audience in the mood for something a little out of the ordinary and although it occasionally comes on like a fiery hot chilli we try not to restrict ourselves to the same thing time after time.”

SUPERPUSSY
Formed in mid 2005, it was only a matter of months before SUPERPUSSY had established themselves as one of the leading bands on the local scene in Wollongong, nsw.
After playing a handfiul of shows and releasing their self titled ep, SUPERPUSSY hit the road supporting THE MARK OF CAIN.
With backgrounds in varius punk rock bands, both in Aus and NZ, SUPERPUSSY came together to create their own brand of heavy, angular rock.
BLUNT MAGAZINE--ISSUE 58 about SUPPERPUSSY'S ALBUM , UP TO NO GOOD.
"This is intense bludgeoning punk rock that states its aggresive but simple case with maximum impact and minimum bullshit.
Wollongong three piece SUPERPUSSY take their cues from noisy bastards like SHELLAC, THE JESUS LIZARD and RAPERMAN, while maintaining a local flavour with a sound that's part MARK OF CAIN, part COSMIC PSYCHO'S and part FEEDTIME.
It's all wrapped around a skull crushing unhinged core of BIRTHDAY PARTY-styled mayhem, thanks in large to the jarring studio work of TONY COHEN (nick cave, beasts of bourbon, dirty three)
The album UP TO NO GOOD is diry, sludgy, shouty and as uncomfortable as finding out the girl you just pashed was your long lost sister."
MOTHER MARS
Stoner rock four-piece Mother Mars have spent the last few years pumping out their big loud energetic live sound all over Sydney. After appearing on bills with bands such as Fort, Cog, Winnebago Deal, Wolfmother, Pod People and Looking Glass and releasing their 'Take The Ride' EP, the band is now ready to launch their album 'Primitives'.
While most of the songs on Primitives showcase the uncompromising and driving sound Mother Mars have become known for, some of the songs see the band just as easily venture off into an ethereal soundscape of crazy noise experimentation. There's plenty of heavy stoner grooves, fuzzed-out guitars and psychedelic jams.
DOWNTIMEDOWNTIME started life when drummer Brenden Peace put an add on the notice board in phantom records shop in the CBD of Sydney in 1987 . A young lad by the name of Billy Hughes read it stating Brenden was looking for muso's to start a punk rock band.Billy called and was impressed that Brenden was an ex member of The Subverts. They were already playing in pubs and quite well known. The rest is history. The first band the pair started was King Pest. They played a mix of originals and covers. Covers including songs from the bands, G.B.H, Stiff Little Fingers, The four Skins and Peter and the test tube babies. Later bringing the original songs to create downtime. They soon gained a following among the local punks and skinheads playing mainly at the Teachers Club near Town Hall station. Because they were under age they had to lie about how old they were. The band called it a day after about a year and a half. Brenden went on to join The Stone Puppets and Billy went on to Tutti Parze and Toe To Toe. The pair remaind in contact both knowing one day they would collaborate once again. Only this time round with better skills gained from hard work and experience. The seed was planted and it's fruit is downtime. Billy left Toe To Toe to form downtime with Brenden. As luck would have it. Bass player Sean Lipset left Toe To Toe himself and also joined downtime. The trio almost over night gained a large following playing to packed pubs in Sydney and Melbourne. Sean had started a record lable called No Deal and they proudly had there first self titled release. Sean sadly left the band to go on and become a major link in the Australian Hardcore/Punk network organising shows including the "Hardcore Superbowl" He Now plays in AVO. Enter James Meek.James was the bass player for ledgens "Massappeal" who had decided to call it a day.Brenden and Billy moved quickly to ask him to join. downtime now had bottle,Petrol and fire..... Explosion!!BUZZARDBUZZARD BEGAN ITS DAYS IN EARLY 2007 WITH MATT(GUITAR) & ANDREW(BASS) AFTER PLAYING IN A PREVIOUS BAND TOGETHER DECIDED TO BEGIN WRITING .THE AIM WAS TO SHOWCASE THEIR UNIQUE MUSICAL STYLES WHILE CREATING MUSIC THAT CAN BUILD FROM SOMETHING QUIET & AMBIANT INTO A DANGEROUSLY HEAVY INFERNO.DURING THIS TIME ANDREW SPENT SOME MONTHS TRAVELLING THROUGH CENTRAL AMERICA LEAVING MATT TO WORK ON THE SONG STYLE & TO SEARCH FOR A DRUMMER CAPABLE OF ADDING TO THE MIX. THE DRUMMER CAME AS PETE WHO HAD PLAYED WITH MATT SOME YEARS BEFORE. THEY BEGAN JAMMING WITH SOME SKELETAL IDEAS OF GROOVES & RIFFS. GRADUALLY FORMING WHAT WAS TO BECOME THE FUSION THAT BUZZARD IS TODAY.ALONG WITH THE HELP OF MUTUAL FRIEND BEN ON BASS THE FIRST 3 SONGS WERE BORN. WITH ANDREW NOW BACK ON AUSTRALIAN SOIL THE TWO (M&A) REGROUPED & BEGAN EXCHANGING IDEAS THAT HAD BEEN CREATED IN EACH OTHERS ABSENCE. THE MAGIC WAS THERE.
