About Me

Bo White. Prophet or Profit. No one seems to know. Even Bo admits that he does only what comes from his heart. “ I just make what comes out” he says. Born and raised in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas, Bo’s life was school, church and the street, sometimes more of one than the other. When asked about his past, he is not very forthcoming. “I didn’t get into anymore or less trouble than anyone else from my neighborhood.” That statement is debatable, but what isn’t is his ability to merge the aforementioned concepts into one coherent entity, which yields incredible results. He skillfully covers the gambit on this release, touching on topics with a vulnerability that few artists have managed to accomplish. While loquacious on wax, he is quite succinct in person. His demeanor seems to conceal a wealth of talent underneath. He stands out without pretense or flash and is very humble. “I can only be who I am.” And what he appears to be is much more complex than he cares to admit. He seems to be almost protective of it and so are the people around him. “Bo is an enigma” says his A&R Brandon Randolph. “He is extremely loyal and has a low tolerance for bullsh*t.” Bo and Brandon have been friends for 6 years. “We learned a lot from each other. Hopefully people will see what I’ve seen over the years.” As we sift through the music on the album Brandon reflects on the recording process. “I can’t keep him out of here [the studio]. Every day he’s got 3 or 4 new songs. He works harder on accident than most people do on purpose.” When asked about his work ethic, Bo seems to be at a loss for why as well. “I just do it until it’s right”. “Music is all I’ve ever wanted to do, so I have to do it until it feels right.” That sentiment comes across on Prophet Or Profit. Bo provides the requisite club bangers and radio songs with “Star Struck”,” The N*gga You Love To Hate”, and “Get Your Mind Right”, but it’s on the songs of substance that he really shines. On “Heysuess” he laments being stereotyped by society. “Love for Me” has him viewing a friend’s abusive relationship and being helpless to prevent it. On “Angel of Death”, you get some face time with the Grim Reaper himself. All in all, Prophet Or Profit is a very good album. When asked about his expectations for this album, Bo says, “I expect for some people to love it and some people to hate it. The fact that they hear it is my only concern.” We’re listening.
