At a young age he and his family, which consisted of his parents and two siblings, relocated to Apatity. From a very early age Gennady liked to sing and was blessed with a good voice, and his passion for music quickly developed. Like many others, he was introduced to rock and roll through artists, such as "Deep Purple", Paul McCartney, Sting and the "Beatles", for sure. Later Gennady's elder brother fell in love, and in a bid to impress his newfound object of affection he decided to take up the guitar. Gennady began to study how his brother played this instrument and started to copy what he saw. Gennady continued to practice until he turned 11, and he managed to impress his brother with his talent. By the age of 13, Gennady was good enough,to be invited to join a musical group, which had been formed by students of a mountain technical school. The other members of this group were all older than Gennady, but he had no problem fitting in. He was also invited to join another group to play at local dances around the city. Gennady was only 14, when his status evolved to superstardom in the tiny town of Apatity! By the age of 16 - Gennady, and this group, which were called Vremya (Time), were winners of the "Hello, we search for talents!" competition. At the age of 18, Gennady got married and gave up performing at dances. He gained employment in a restaurant. Whilst working there, he became aquainted with the St.Petersburg musicians - the Medvedchikov brothers. The brothers were to become a great influence on Gennady's life. At this time, Gennady was called to do his two years of military service. The Army posted him to St.Petersburg, where he joined the military orchestra. During this time, he met many interesting people: musicians, artists and actors. Amongst these people were such names as, Alexey Falileev (the lead actor BDT theatre), Valery Keft and many others. Gennady left the Army in 1984 and returned to Apatity, but left very after soon to work in a Polyarnye Zory restaurant, in Murmansk. He worked there until May 1987. In that year Gennady joined a "Marathon" group, called which cooperated with famous composer Victor Reznikov. Gennady soon became a soloist with this group. and made such hits as L'dinka, and Nedotroga (Touchy Person), written by Victor Reznikov. Gennady then embarked on a period of touring, and becoming more recognized by the public. He had written songs of his own, and it was at this time, that one of his own compositions, Kamenny dozhd' (Stone Rain), reached the top of the hit parade, published in the "Smena" ("Change") newspaper. Gennady decided to branch out on his own. He parted company with "Marathon", to pursue his own ambitions. By coincidence, on the day he left "Marathon", he became acquainted with Vladimir Kiselyov, who suggested they should work together. This they did, and formed the "Russian" group. It was ingenious! His collaboration with Vladimir Kiselyov -produced three straight hits, "Russkiye Idut!" ("Russian Goes!"), "Nu i Chto?" ("So What?") and "Zhenshina , kotoruyu boyus" ("Woman, I am Afraid"). These songs did very well not just in the USSR, but also abroad: Germany, France, Japan, etc. Gennady also worked with Diter Bolen and "Blue System", Sting, Paul McCartney. But after four years together - "Russian" split up. Gennady released three albums on CD: "Russkie Idut!" ("Russian Goes!"), "Derzha Ruku Na Kreste" ("Holding a Hand on a Cross"), and "Priglashayu v Rai "("Invitation to Paradise"). He then did solo work for himself, and others: Serguei Burmistrov, Alexey Glyzin, Grigory Leps, Anatoly Mogilevsky, and Varvara, etc. However, after a break of 11 years, Gennady Bogdanov and Vladimir Kiselyov was fated to meet and work together again for some time with "Russian"! But this lasted not too long: from January 2004 until September 2005. At the present time, Gennady Bogdanov is busy touring, and preparing for the release of his two new albums: "Levsha" ("The Lefthander") and "The Best Russian songs".
