About Me

dob 26.08.64, Washington, DC [sun in Virgo, moon & ascendant in Aries] raised [hell] in Northern Virginia and after 24 years of living in the border town of San Diego, CA developed the habit of having one eye continuously fixed eastward on the horizon past the Netherlands...
I am a lover AND a fighter.
...have maintained sanity & made ends meet [a professional career???] as a songwriter, musician, essayist, disc jockey, editor, pizza box folder, paperboy, administrator, video archivist & producer (eventually earning a Grammy nomination and the Achievement in Film Award from The Blues Foundation for co-producing The American Folk Blues Festival 1962-1966 DVD/CD series in 2003-04; the AFBF also received an honorable mention on the Honours List from MOJO magazine for their 2004 MOJO Vision Award)...
...spent the 70s, 80s and 90s developing the [not-so-common] sense that in this divine tragi-comedy of life that music is the best expression [and/or antidote] to this roller coaster ride of existence that we currently find ourselves on/in (also to retain a sense of humour)...
...musical performances & adventures accrue with no end in sight, experience all manner of emotion & excitement throughout the continental United States, the United Kingdom, continental Europe, Peru, Bolivia, Nepal & Tibet. February 1992 sees the release of debut recording Walk Without Me, a six-song EP produced by longtime friends Darian Sahanaja & Nick Walusko, at the same time as they are about to launch their own group Wondermints. Sahanaja & Walusko also log full-time status as members of Brian Wilson's touring band and it was Sahanaja who helped piece together the widely acclaimed CD Brian Wilson Presents Smile...
...from 1991 to 1993 published a promotional newsletter for friend and songwriter Peter Case (ex-Nerves & Plimsouls) called Travellin' Light, an experience that culminated in being invited out on the road as Case's road manager & occasional opening act on a 50-city tour of North America during the summer & autumn of 1992. Composed and performed the music for a children's play entitled Snow White Meets The Dark Side for the Ensemble Arts Studio Theatre in San Diego in the winter of 1995-96 and released a second EP in 1997 entitled A Pair Of Opposites. After returning from a pilgrimage to Tibet in the summer of 2000 produced for Sushi Performance Space a 90-minute multi-media performance art piece entitled 18 Spirits, that incorporated live music, spoken word, video montages & concept art...
...spent nearly six years helping to build & run the largest musical video archive in the world, Reelin In The Years Productions. During that period co-produced the aforementioned American Folk Blues Festival series and the re-release of the classic 1971 film Soul To Soul (on DVD & CD). Also co-produced & directed five short films for permanent exhibition at the Stax Museum of American Soul Music in Memphis, TN entitled Soulsville and for five years [2000-2004] worked as a consultant procuring films for the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame's induction ceremonies and broadcasts...
...and now, in 2008 I continue to offer music that will inspire, entertain and heal. After releasing the compact disc Cabalistic Dispatch in 2005 (a sonic rock and roll prayer to heal myself and others who are interested in transcending the lies of our current "culture") I began weekly transmissions of the program STATE CONTROLLED RADIO; which resembles the free-form FM radio of the early 1970s. State Controlled Radio is an eclectic approach that aims to stretch the boundaries of contemporary radio formatting and is being offered through the non-commercial web-based stations vois.com and bzoo.org, with the emphasis on preserving and promoting excellence in music & independent artists...
...yes, despite a system that appears bent on emphasizing the baser aspects of our existence I remain optimistic about our fate here on planet Earth and remain committed to all things artistic, musical, compassionate and forward thinking. Music is still our highest form of communication and our greatest barometer of truth if we allow it to resonate with the human heart and I believe, as George Harrison once suggested, that Its What You Value...at some point we will create a society that supports every sentient beings right to grow and ascend, not just a group of the self-selected chosen few...thank you for the time, may peace, love & soul never go out of style... xxoo
