Josh Stanley is a progressive rock guitarist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist from southern West Virginia. For over 5 years, Josh has been playing guitar, as well as studying music theory. The page you are on is the homepage for his solo project. This project is the result of Josh's desire to share his compositions with as many people as possible.
In the short time he has been playing his instrument, Josh has often been cited as a progressive rock guitarist. While this genre is arguably his specialty, he explores many other styles such as jazz, blues, country, bluegrass, classical/flamenco, pop, church music, and metal. His strong conviction to exhibit originality and versatility is not only heard in his guitar playing, but his compositions as well. Desiring to push through the boundaries of cliché norms in songs today, Josh favors odd formats and structures for his songs, as well as unusual chord progressions.
Josh’s solo project conveys his desire to obtain “completeness†as a musician. Josh writes all the music and plays all the instruments you hear. The drums are arranged by him as well, along with occasional synth sounds. Although his solo project is based off his independent musical inspirations, he loves collaborations with other musicians in the area, and encourages anyone interested in working on music (of any genre) to contact him without hesitation.
Josh maintains the desire to improve as a guitarist and overall musician. To keep his guitar skills sharp, he has developed a custom 10 Hour “Guitar Workout†practice schedule. He composes new music almost daily, with nearly everything around him serving as an inspiration. With the mindset of a true musician and the soul of a genuine artist, Josh strives to produce music that is a mixture of technical proficiency and innovative artistic quality.
Josh’s music holds the guitar as the centerpiece, while he strives to create an ambiance so listeners can “see the bigger picture†of the song as a whole.
