HUSLA comes from a very rich musical background. Being the grandson of the late great Johnnie Taylor and son of Floyd Taylor he chose to pursue his musical roots, but in the route of rap and hip hop. Husla comes from the Chicago metro area, known as the Land of Lincoln a phrase you can see on any welcome billboard when you enter Illinois. He grew up in two parts of the city. On the south side of Chicago in the Robert Taylor Housing Projects where he dwelled with his grandmother Mildred Singaltary. There he endured the best and the worst experiences; like witnessing poverty, substance abuse, gangbanging, prostitution, police violence, drug dealing and murder. Although, it sounds like a story line out of a movie scene, Husla is not ashamed of where he came from he doesn’t regret any of it. As a teenager he found his way to the west side of the city and made a section of the city nick named K town; his daily stomping ground. There he became good friends with some of the most notorious gang leaders and drug dealers. Now, some may have chosen this life style for ego or just for self recognition, but by his pops not being around all the time and moms not being able to afford the expensive Champaign taste that their son took a liking to; Husla was not one to be fond of asking for help, therefore, he felt that was the best way to gain it. As the harsh realities of losing friends to death and numerous D.O.C (department of corrections) visits it didn’t take him long to find out that that wasn’t the long term lifestyle he desired. He looked at a lot of the futures and outcomes of his surroundings those included death or jail! Who wants that? So in his down time he began to think of a successful escape plan, what better way to express it, than through music! Being a true artist; in his music you can hear him touch on everything he encountered in his life experiences.
